One undergrad semester (bachelor's in English - surprise) I was taking both semantics and phonology. I was talking to my mom on the phone and told her which classes I was taking that year...there was this long pause, and she says (feigning innocence) "you're learning to diagnose illness by feeling bumps on people's heads?"

No, mom. Phonology, not phrenology.

My mom was a punk.

In other news, I heard a rumor that Martin is changing the name of his company again, to . . .

Phlat Six International

You can get bad gas from BJs!

I learned that many Porsche owners are unfamiliar with terms such as "pink sock," "blumpkin," and "human centipede."

I am not sufficiently worthy to add anything new to this thread, but I will say this! I memorized it as follows...
two flashes = bye bye
one flash = hi

don't judge!!

I learned I'm glad the 996 does not have integrated wireless networking:

Tesla Patches Cars Against Wi-Fi 'Braking' Attack
Electric car manufacturer Tesla has updated its firmware after researchers in China remotely turned on a vehicle's windshield wipers, opened the trunk and applied the brakes in new Model S sedans.

I have a hard enough keeping all of my employees' computers and our servers hardened and exploit-resistant; I don't need a car I have to worry about patching.

Say, if Apple DOES start making cars, will they pull the same sh*t they do with their computers? "Oh, you want the latest version of CarOS? Sorry, your iCar 5.0 is no longer supported. You'll need to buy a new iCar 7.1 or newer to continue receiving CarOS updates."

It will suck when a new OS is released and your car gets bricked...

When perspective 996 owners are considering ownership:

70% of the 996 owners (without a fix/solution) or IMS failure issues tells them that IMS failure is relatively not as big of an issue when considering 10% failure.

10% of the 996 owners with IMS failure tells them to be careful and usually their story of the money issues involved.

The other 20% that handled the problem with a preventive solution are laughing there a## off at both of them knowing that the 70% are standing in the same line the 10% were in, they just haven't been let into the club yet!

The other 10% of us know all those numbers are made up and you should just go for the option you're most comfortable with.

The Rennlist poll shows 10% (Approx.) failure with 90% (Approx.) showing no failure. Estimating a 20% of the 90% having dealt with the issue in a somewhat permanent fix/solution preventative manner before encountering a failure judging by posters in threads on the topic.

Just my observation - not meant in a disparaging way to the 996 as I am a owner myself.
