Default Engine carrier bracket replacement?

Hey all,

Quick question, dealership is dropping my engine for some work. My engine carrier bracket has some scrapes on the bottom edge from the previous owner. Is it an engine drop activity to replace this bracket or can it be done with the engine in the car?

Wondering if I should have them replace it while the engine is out or at a later date?

Tried to search but didnt come up with anything solid

This is the bracket im referring to (this isn't my engine):

Thanks!

is it damaged [going to fail] or looks scraped ? it is not like it is highly visible. i can imagine the amount of scrapes the engine has from sitting in the driveway asphalt......i would have thought putting it on a tarp/plywood ......dolly that is in the back ground

If you want to replace it the time to do it is while the motor is out otherwise access to some of the nuts shown in the pic will be very tough not to mention you'll have to support the motor while doing so. The threads on the motor mounts might be problematic too.

Those scrapes are common. The PO either had really tall speed bumps in his daily drive or more likely the elevation between the driveway and street was too great. If the scales.wre superficial, leave it one. But if you want to change it later, it can be done in the car with a little elbow grease.

Thanks guys, it's all superficial but ideally I'd like to replace it at this point but finding a good used one will be tricky in a short time frame (i'm in Australia). Knowing it can be swapped later is what I wanted to hear at least if I don't find one right away I know I can do it later with the engine still in, thanks!

Anyone replaced theirs?

This pretty much explains the whole engine carrier bracket. Yes, you can replace it while the engine is in the car and supported while you remove the bolts and bottom nuts from the engine mounts. For $175, if you want pristine, just get a new one.

I just had mine replaced by local Indy, I backed up and hit a curb, ripped off skid plate and rolled lip on bottom of carrier.

The motor was not pulled out, ecs sells for About $170, factory Porsche

- new coolant reservoir
- y starter cable
- trans flush
- slave cylinder
- other minor misc parts

Thanks, have asked them to do that.

I think it was replaced around 3 years ago but it's a good insurance policy for couple of hundred that it costs!

I'd start replacing that bracket every two years just to be on the safe side

Haha, CEF mode number 3,451?

"Help my engine carrier bracket caused a CEF"?

I guess if it didnt support then engine properly it could do some pretty bad damage!
