Help! My 996 cab just broke down in an intersection

KK, how is that Powerstroke you rebuilt doing?
Anyway, just asking about the Tip story and failure, not making any judgments on it.

Sorry to hear that man. I gotta admit, I got into the car yesterday for the first time in over a year to check the mileage and man did it feel good. I miss driving it so much.

If you don't mind me asking, what happened after this? The thread posts don't explain what happened to the 2nd Tip. So the shifter linkage problem did not solve the issue or the 2nd trans was already damaged before the last shop fixed the linkage? Just when I thought the Tip might be a viable option, I read this fiasco. Doesn't say much for the Tip does it? Sorry to read about yours.

Have you been starting the car at all since parked? So strange that 2 tips have gone bad on you...

I’m holding on to hope that my previous mechanic wasn’t very thorough and that it still may be a controller/comp issue. That’ll be the difference between me selling this thing for 10 vs 18k.

I know this may sound dumb but you really didn't know the true health or history of either transmission which makes it very hard to pin down the problem(s). Wonder what the PO could tell you about the car since it failed in 2 weeks after purchase from dealer? I suppose its possible two worn/used transmissions could fail in similar ways. Your really in a jam without having a known good trans that passed all testing prior to being installed in your car. If there are no physically broken parts, I also see no reason both of your trans cant be rebuilt though I would hate to be the guy to tackle the box of parts from the first one.
I'm no trans expert, but have rebuilt manuals and autos before. The only time I saw something weird like this was when I rebuilt the same trans over and over, meaning complete disassemble then reassemble about 3 times with the same result, there was a phantom crack in the case. I don't see how this would be possible with your two but I remember that the one I had almost drove me nuts because of the crack. Maybe contact some really sharp Tip tech and get an opinion or idea. Surely the last shop ran diagnostics before they let you have the car back?
If your sure your trans problem is not an electrical, connection, program issue DME-CM, TIP-CM, heat, or a fluid contamination issue, the only way forward is with a known reman or new one. I think if I were you, I would bite the bullet and buy a reman with a warranty even if I had to charge it to a credit card temporarily just to get your car road worthy. Now if the 3rd one fails, at least it has a warranty and proves your car is indeed cursed.
