Hopefully he gets email notification, and checks in.

Funny, I was just thinking last week about KK and his tranny.

KK and a trip with two Trannies. hahaah

Yea, I felt bad for the fella. Paid almost 30 grand for the cab from Porsche dealership only to experience catastrophic failure not just one, but two transmissions. Yikes! Now the poor '03 cab is probably still sitting idle in his rented garage. Wonder if he'll sell as is or try to repair it. My guess is he'd rather move on with life and rid himself of this horrible nightmare of a car purchase. It's a shame plain and simple.

Hey guys! Sorry I'm just now getting around to replying. I'm happy to say I've been getting plenty of use out of the 996 lately!

It's perfect for storing my new kayak when not in use!

Yo Krazy K!

Good to see you still have plenty of toys to play with in light of the whole tranny fiasco. Can't hide money huh? haha

Seriously, what are your plans with the Carrera Cab? You going to sell it off as-is or restore it?

Current plans are to eventually save up enough to replace the tranny with another used one and immediately sell it for whatever I can get.

Well, you may want to take a wise step back and look at all of your options before dumping tons of addition cash into this car. Currently, the 996 cabriolets have been depreciating pretty fast. Mine sold for $20,000 and was almost identical to your cab with the exception of the tranny. But I've seen many for well under $20K.

I wonder what the cost for a used transmission and installation would cost you? $7K $10K or more??? That would be the first thing I'd look at.

It seems your car looks to be in good condition overall, but in a "roller" state, the car may not grab much more than $10,000. Maybe less if the IMS has not been changed out.

Much to think about. But hate to see you dump more money into this Porsche-pit.

I'm not gonna lie, if the car would grab 10k as a roller I'd take it in a heart beat. At this point I just want to be rid of this money pit.

Sorry to say, but $10K for a roller is reaching from what I've seen. Save up for a good used tranny and dump it if you really feel that way. But full disclosure for the next guy!

Yeah I'm not expecting that much for a roller. Just stating that if someone offered that I'd take it in a heartbeat.

It's a 2002 996 Carrera Cabriolet with TipTronic. It has around 55 to 60k miles. The engine was replaced at some point because the IMSB failed before I owned the car and was fixed under warranty.
