Yea Another IMS thing!! Have any of you used or know of anyone who has installed the EPS roller bearing IMS upgrade. This ims looks really good. I'm looking because I have a 2002 C2 with 90K with a dealer replaced ims and associated parts under warranty in 2004. looking at PM things soon, like clutch, rms, imsb, and aos. ?? OH any suggestions for shop in Jax, FL or Savannah, GA?

If you must have a roller bearing(WHY?) - at least get one with effective thrust control from RND?

There may be an alternative to the RND bearing(they are a distributor so they buy it somewhere else & resell). The bearing sold by RND is a very obscure spec. It is distinctly different from the generic roller bearings offered by others.
You do mean roller bearing? - not deep groove ball bearing??

In 2004 there were no commercially available retrofits, all the efforts that we had were still in development.

Without bringing up an old topic, I've had my EPS IMS for about a 1.5 years and 8k miles on my 2005 997.1S and couldn't be happier. I like the roller design and oil feed with no drop in oil pressure. The design reminds me of the bearings used on treadmills/escalator and the race seems more robust than what is currently offered. I researched this well and felt comfortable in my own research and just wasn't satisfied with other offerings based on real world opinions of several indies I talked to and use for services. By the way my stock IMS was perfectly fine upon examination at 29,800 miles. I had the RMS and clutch done at the same time and both were perfect too. I also, had the water pump replaced bc of the composite impellers at the same time as I thought they may be due to deteriorate based on internet reading. Water pump was perfect too. Though all these are potential issues with the 996/997, honestly, the Internet nay sayers have given what is a decent car, a bad rap. Be sensible with maintainence and enjoy as these will be the last of the "analog" 911.

I was just in a shop last week that was in the process of replacing the IMSB and completely rebuilding a motor due to IMSB failure. They are using the EPS roller bearing. It is a reputable shop. I discussed the roller bearing with them, and they told me they have used it many times in the past with no issues to date.
