There's a guy I know who has the perfect answer to this dilemma. He owns all of the following (yes at the same time):

996 C4 Cab
996 TT
GT2
GT3 Street Version
2 x GT3 Cup Cars (he's a race team owner)
Cayenne Turbo

All that and a hot wife and a house in newport....kinda makes me wonder where I went wrong to "only" afford 1 Turbo.

No I won't say his name if you're wondering, but he sold a major plumbing fixture company a few years ago for somewhere between $20MM & $40MM.

Your right Steve, I guess the herky jerky tach has got to go...It has probably been driving you guys nuts!!! I guess I have been spending too much time on line rather than driving my new baby...For what it's worth, it's been raining the past couple of days up here and after 3 days of multiple Zaino polish coats and other detailing, I just could'nt get it dirty..."That car is Sooooo spoiled..." Anyways, my new temporary avatar will makes it's debut sometime tonight, until I get some sunny weather to take some real good pics for my final cut avatar. I thought the tach was a good stand in for the cop flasher I had on yesterday. Take care...

I just did a HPDE event at Sebring last week.

There is usually a Porsche Turbo running in my group.

Also, there was a Black Z06 this time along with a Turbo.

The vette ran with the Turbo around Sebring. I have the video from in my car, well, about 20 seconds of video as they blast by me in my Audi S4, it appeared I had put my car in reverse on the back straight they were going so fast, both of those cars have got alot of go-go.

Anyway, Z06 can hang with the Turbo, driver's appeared pretty closely matched, and so are the cars...

But, in the end, I'd rather be driving the Porsche.

The Porsche is faster....
The video's I have are of a stock 996tt not moddified.
The Z06's are great untill you get into a real road situation.. (ruff road on a fast turn..) there skidpad much like the 80's cammaro's drop to less then .80....

My first post on the boards and I hope I am not re-hashing old crap. But as a Z06 owner researching my soon to be upgrade to a Porsche, I'll give you my take on the matter which is similar to the value/better analogy used in another:

1 package of Peppermint Lifesavers - $0.59
1 package of Starbucks After Coffee Peppermints - $2.19

Both are relatively equal in getting my breath fresh.
Starbucks mints last a bit longer due to small size.
Starbucks mints come in a sexy metal package, Lifesavers don't.
Starbucks mints taste slightly better to me (IMO).
If all I want to do is get my breath fresh, I'll buy Lifesavers that have not one thing wrong with them.
If I want to really enjoy getting my breath fresh, I'll buy Starbucks mints.

I know the price to performance ratios between the mints and cars aren't exactly the same, but the Scotch is killing my desire to think any harder.

Thanks for allowing me to join and post, and I look forward to upgrading my Lifesavers to a Porsce.

while I've had an 03 Z06, Viper GTS, 2 NSX, 1 993 and others, I have not owned a 996 TT. But I can say that the Z was quite impressive even in build quality. Notice I didn't say interior materials. I said build quality. There were no rattes, hard bumps brought no flex at all, doors were very light but closed solidly, power and handling were first class and nothing I've owned came close.

When I drove a 996 TT I felt like I was on a majic carpet. It was so smooth it was borderline boring. I would have to get an exhaust, lower the car, etc to make it feel more raw. But hands down the we all know the 996 is better and I aggree that short of a 5K and dump clutch start the Z would likely win stop light drags. However 1/4 mile runs and highway would probably be another story as the turbos begin to breath and stretch their legs.

With regards to the performance comparison between GT3 and TT (I know nothing about Corvettes), I can tell you that a programme called Top Gear in the UK have been running a bunch of cars on their test-track over the last year (the last series and the new series now currently showing). They have the same test driver each time. Last year, the stock TT did 1 min 31 on the circuit in the wet. This year the new GT3 did it in 1 min 27 secs also in very wet conditions. Imagine what it would do to the TT in the dry? I was a bit surprised at this in the wet conditions but it just shows how good that car is.

Forget 0-60 times and 400lb/ft of torque, this car is not boring by any stretch of the imagination.

I find it interesting that threads of this type often leave out the most important piece of the puzzle.....The Driver.

Maybe people interested in these threads constantly quote the Buff Books ET's instead of going to the track and putting their driving skills on the line?
