Hi ppl,
In the process of purchasing an 02 C2 from a dealer, the car however is not a Porsche certified vehicle. The dealer told me that it will be around $2K for it to be certified, does this sound right? Thx for the help.

The Porsche Certification is pretty much a warranty program offered thru PCNA. The program costs dealers $1400 but they usually make a couple hundred on it to cover the prerequisite paperwork and inspection.
Hope it helps,
BTW- Shouldn't the 02 still be under factory warranty??

I'm confused about this. I bought my pre-owned '01 Turbo in March from Beverly Hills Porsche and they told me that there is no such thing as a Porsche Certified used car program, nor is there any Porsche factory extended warranty.
PCNA does not appear to have any information on a certification program on their website either.
If anyone has different information, I'd be very interested to hear about it.

The program is very new I believe it just started the 1st of this month -- I read about in the WSJ last month -- The thing that always amazes me about automobile dealers it they never know what is up -- I have run into only one sales guy who knew about it. All the other ones just talked about the aftermarket warranty.

This is the re-introduction of a program that has been around for quite some time. When I bought my 993 in 1999, it was PCNA certified by the dealer. It was a 1 year unlimited miles PCNA backed warranty.
Here is a link to another disucussion of certification:

PCNA ran into some legal problems with their pre-owned warranty program in the 90s and dropped it for many years. They have to bring it back now not so much I think for their kind hearted concern about the plunging values of 996s and Boxsters , but to be more like Lexus, BMW, Mercedes , . etc in showing they are mainstream luxury purveyor in the eyes of nervous first time Cayenne intenders who are cross shopping the other brand's SUVs.
But wait until these Porsche neophytes get their Cayenne oil change bills when their friends get free maintenance for their luxo mall-utes .

Just a few follow up questions......
If the car did not pass the 100 point inspection, does it mean that it cannot be certified? And do I have to dig from my own pocket to cover the failuers and replacements (ie. brakes, tires) during the inspection? Thx in advance.

The dealer covers the cost of making it pass the inspection, which by the way, any 02 should pass.
Most of the "100 points" are kinda silly and obvious. One is "glass free from cracks"
Bulbs, brakes, tires etc are also inspected.
Good Luck.

Thanks all, as usual Rennlist comes through for me again!!
I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this already, but anyone know if you can get the factory pre-owned warranty applied after a car is purchased? (for example, I purchased my Turbo still under original warranty, but I want coverage after it expires).
