Default Introduction (not owner yet)

Hello everyone,

I'm on a search for a 996 and decided to stop in, sign up and do some searching on various topics.

I'm looking at a 996 (mkii) next week but wanted to do some research here first as a "non-lurker". There are so many questions already asked, I have plenty to keep me busy.

I do hope to become an owner and participant here.

Good Luck.

The search is a lot of the fun. My only piece of advise is you can't be over informed.

Ask questions as they come up and you will gain a wealth of knowledge. And probably a few laughs.

Welcome and I'm glad you know how to do the basics already as to not clutter up these boards with another identical thread.

And don't rule out the Mark I Aero cars. I will keep saying it until everyone else agrees with me, they are the best looking Porsche ever.

Yes, I agree. I just happen to only find a mkii within 100 miles and I will extend the radius if needed.

I do notice prices a bit higher on lower mileage units with full leather. The vehicle I am taking a look at is priced at $35k.

I've spent the majority of my forum time on BMW forums, so I do recognize, there ARE indeed, stupid questions.

Deegee: you sir are a gentleman and a scholar. And there aren't many of us left.

Thekurgan: Actually, I had talked myself into looking at only Mk II's until I saw a Mk I aero in person. You'll never miss the glove box (the map pockets in the doors hold plenty of junk), the extra 20 hp/torque is largely negated by the weight gain. The other difference often quoted is the interior materials quality. Full leather in the Mk I makes that issue moot.

Did you check the classifieds? There is a nice Mk2 aero for $6k less than the one you are considering.

I checked cars.com and autotrader. I'll check those again today, thanks for the information.

I didn't find any locally (25 mile radius, Sacramento).

ROAD TRIP.... the best way to buy any Porsche. I think the RL one is in Florida, about as far away as possible.
