I am planning on taking it to a mechanic and specify to him the possibility of the water pump impellers exploding.

not sure what you're talking about towards the end, but thank you for the concern. Hopefully my mechanic retrieves all pieces if that's the case.

You may want to read Jakes info about the impeller explosions and what happens next.
And sorry,,, CEF = catastrophic engine failure
MOF = mode of failure
They are both acronyms unique to the M96 NA.

I just did some reading. From my understanding if the water pump impellers were to break they would be logged into the coolant passages and cause hot spots which in return cracks the head or makes your head gasket fail? If that's the case to remove the plastic impellers does the engine need to be taken apart?

Wait and see what your mechanic says before you allow Krazy K to whip you into a frenzy.

Good job on reading JR's info.
Keep reading, it gest even better. He goes so far as to piece the old impeller together like a jigsaw puzzle.

991661, if you don't know KK's history on this forum, I'd suggest you read some of the older posts before you even take this guy seriously.

Or how he was given a little vacation after bashing the 944 on the 944 board. He has helped me but he sure can stir the $hit.
