Default first break down.

Currently waiting for a tow, car puked out a lot of coolant from the rear. I hope this will be an easy fix.

Hopefully just a busted coolant hose or bad water pump.

I dumped about a gallon of coolant from my Boxster (also an M96) between laps at an autocross - the engine was VERY hot, and I was waiting in pregrid for my next turn.

The issue turned out to be a failed coolant tank cap...I hope your diagnosis is equally benign.

I suspect a bad water pump, because before I shut her off it made a funky sound.

But think of how cool it will look when it's on the flat bed! Best of luck!

What sort of "funky sound"? More than likely with a sound it was the water pump blowing a seal. Not a bad fix, probably time anyway. Good luck!

my first reaction was to shut it off, then after some thinking it sounded similar to maybe the water pump impellers smacking about?

Be sure you retrieve all the impeller pieces so they don't block coolant flow!

If its really the WP impeller explosion, someone better explain this or he's going to experience the dreaded CEF of MOF #???
