Exclamation Help Identify Object Blocking Exhaust

I need some ideas on what this is that is blocking my exhaust. I've been looking at lots of images of Cat and Muffler internals and this to me seems like its something from the cat.

The piece is metal and I can't pull it out or push it back. Its jammed in there pretty good right now, but I'm assuming that once the tips are removed and exhaust dropped, it will be easy to remove.

Any ideas?

That's the guts of your cat.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking and that's the feedback I've gotten from some other sources as well. Does anyone have any photos of the internals of a 996 cat? I'm curious as to how its setup.

It is basically what you see there. It will look like a flat wall of honeycomb. Take a screwdriver and chisel that down to chunks and blow it out of your exhaust with a couple blips of the throttle

That's what I thought too but how the heck did it manage to make it that far down the exhaust, especially through the mufflers?

Good question! I can't see how it would be possible for that piece to make it through the stock mufflers. Maybe they are aftermarket...

That's definitely not stock exhaust.

Its not a stock exhaust. Its a RUF exhaust. I'll try and see if I can break the honey comb apart, but it was pretty solid.

Aftermarket or not would have no difference on how a cat element can get blown into a muffler and somehow accurately positioned again to exit out another tube within the chamber(or chambers).

Edit: Actually I can see it if the muffler inlet is one continuous perforated tubing going all the way to the exhaust like below:

OP, you have aftermarket cats too?

I had resonators on a 914 one time that had a substance like that just out of view from the exhaust tip. One came loose and moved on down and looked very similar.

I have stock cat, but the part number is 996 113 022 93 for the European MK1 GT3.

Does anyone know the functional difference between 996 113 022 93 (for M96.76) and 996 113 022 97 (for M96.79). Basically, would it be a problem to replace both of my 996 113 022 93 with 996 113 022 97. Would I see any performance hits/gains and or other issues.
