it has to do with the market. All that work if you can get a decent mechanic and pay less than a shop still it costs quite a bit and these cars are becoming harder to find. I think the seller is trying to sell it now because of the current market situation. This will come down some in future, how much I don’t know. Anyway a few days ago a singer sold for $1,050 million plus commissions so that’s over 1.1 million. There is one now on PCar at it’s already at 900 thousand with a day and a half to go. There is a 8,000 mile GT2 speed yellow. I believe a lot of people know is the time to sell. Anyway lumber from the February high is down 30 percent in cost and also the price for copper has gone down 16 percent.

This is a driver, not a collector piece. It has a lot of miles and the prior salvage title makes it very difficult to get a loan and full insurance. I have a 99 with 80k miles that was not damaged (theft recovery). Granted it is a Cabriolet tip but still could not sell it for $11k a couple of months back. Believe me, the tainted title takes a lot of buyers out of the picture.

i have a 99 clean never wreck coupe 6 speed. It now has 96,000 miles. Got offered 25,000 for it, I’m not selling it. I’m with USAA, in case of rebuilt tittle they will insurance been associated with them for 37 years. No I would not finance a 22 year old car.

Most if the time you will see stupid prices on the auction sites, especially if you have a bidding war going. I have watched several cars go for far more than they should, even with bore scoring. There seem to be a lot of first time buyers registering and buying on the auction sites which leads me to believe that they are not necessarily well informed about what they are buying. Even cars without the IMS being replaced are selling for close to what cars with IMS bearings replaced are going for, and that seems to be another indicator of uninformed buyers. Part of the other problem with the auction sites is the peanut-gallery cheerleaders that try to convince everyone that 996s are unicorns that will be disappearing from the market, which is stupid as PCNA sold thousands of them. The dealers are also trying to push the market with ridiculous prices on both 996 and 997 cars as well. The prices for the C4S and 40AE cars are getting to the point where I could (and would) just spend another $10K and get a decent air cooled car.

A few weeks ago I found a 2002 911 C2 with 104K on it for $19K, which I thought was relatively fair. If you look for private listings, there are still people trying to sell them for reasonable prices. With private sellers, you have an opportunity to get the car checked out thoroughly; with the auctions, you have to take what the sellers says as reliable as it is difficult to get a PPI with a 7-day auction. And if the PPI comes back clean, you are still looking at paying a premium, especially if the seller happens to mention in the auction comments something like "an interested buyer just got a PPI and found no issues".
