Yeah, that's a bit surprising. The tach seems like a lot of trouble to go through, however you can see it has a sunroof and regular Carrera calipers...

he definitely pushed all the buttons to fake the GT3 funk.. down to the exhaust tips and door sills.. the tach has got to be a sticker.. its a good looking car.. and a engine shot would be nice to confirm the "S" claim. GLWS pulling $30k

Thankfully this day and time, with a little research and VIN checking, buyers can be more protected by counterfeits or "replica" cars. Years ago I bought what I thought was an exclusive Trans Am GTA which later turned up as rebadged base model Firebird. Ouch, that one still hurts.

Even the C4S, the only model with an "S" in it, had the based C2 engine without any power increase.

I wonder how accurate the tach is, whether it is a sticker/overlay or a swap out of the entire cluster.
It would be interesting to know if you could swap in a GT3 cluster and have an accurate tach.
I imagine that would be extremely expensive to do.
A tach overlay would give you an inaccurate tach.
That might not matter to most people though.

There is a 996 Turbo S model sold in 2004/2005. It combines X50 power upgrades with PCCB ceramic brakes and some other frills.

That's pretty interesting!
The only way you could tell this is not an actual GT3 would be the sunroof, rear seats (if they haven't been swapped out) and looking under the rear deck.
Although changing out the intake might not be too difficult if you run the 82mm TB.
Then the oil filler being on the right side would be the best indicator.
Pretty cool looking car.
1/2 price of an actual GT3 with around 88% of the horse power.

No affiliation, but this seem like a great deal in the making especially since it has a fresh RND motor and IMS in the car.
