I read it as the car runs fine, but hasn't had the IMS done... my wife's 996 is at 90k miles and we have not done the IMS. We got the car with 30k on it. It's a 2002 C4 Cab Tiptronic.
I remember at a tech session (on the IMS issue) the local dealer was holding I asked specifically about how many repairs they've ever seen on Tips and they said it was much lower than manual transmissions and that I may never see the issue. The higher the mileage gets the more likely I don't think we'll see the issue. However, after posting this it's probably going to happen now...

I spoke to that owner a while back. Seemed legit. Younger guy (sounded) that likes to "work on cars".
Love the shifter. My 07 Cayman had one. Amazing.

yeah he and his lady are both big time VW folks, think he does all his own work and does it pretty well. i'd have to try out that shifter it just looks so bonkers.
