Red interior!? Yeah, that might explain the nine owners. Good thing is if ketchup fell out of your burger on the seats, dash or floors no-one would notice! Too bright for me.

I really don't mind if it has a more reliable motor but I honestly don't think any (non Porsche) swap motor will truly be in sync with the original Porsche. One thing I haven't seen is folks putting a 997.2 engine in a 996. Would this be doable? Would love to have a 99' C2 with the 3.8L engine.

+1 ... and maybe not a chassis with space shuttle miles on it. At 175k, I hope it's had a full suspension & steering refresh. Otherwise, that $36,500 is just a down payment.

IIRC, they've tried to sell that LS swap car in Dallas at least a couple of other times over the past few years.

Anything is doable if you have the money to pour down the pipe.

Options:
  • Cram a 9A1 into a 996: Lots of pain, time, and money. It will likely be a work in progress well after it is "done" too.
  • By a 996 and ship it to Jake, he'll make it a 3.8l if you want. Probably cheaper than the 9A1 cram job, but still $$$$ and there is a long lead time.
  • Just buy a 997.2 and be done with it. Probably the same cost as going the Jake route, but you have it sooner.

Also, the 9A1 isn't without it's issues too. It's no m96, but it's not perfect either.

I was thinking for some who have a blown M96 motor could find a 9A1 motor for a decent price could be an option. You're probably right, it's always a work in progress when you swap a different motor.

I believe one of our Canadian members actually has a 9A1 (picked it up for a steal) that he has set aside for just such a need.

The issue is that all the electronics and wiring harnesses need to be swapped too. I *think* you might even need a new transmission. Then all the odds and ends to get everything to mate up and play nice as with any not like for like swap.

Since all the critical electronics changed, then you have to deal with the gauge cluster.

Will the 996 security module play nice, or does it need to be replaced? If it has to go too, what about the ignition and door locks?

Etc...

Maybe I'm just a guy who drank the Kool-Aid, but my bet is that one of Jake's engines will be more reliable in the long run than a used 9A1. Porsche can afford a certain number of failures. Jake really can't ... and even if he could, I don't think he could abide by them.

Judging by the few sales that we've seen, I'd also expect a car with a FSI engine to hold its value pretty well. No idea if that would be true for a car with a 9A1 transplant.

Not trying to start a ruckus here ... as Dennis Miller says, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

People around here use this free site advertise (more so than CL). I'd give this car an "unknown issue" status:

That's a pretty good deal if it is all legit. Asking price seems about $3,000 too low, plus the issue with the brother moving to Thailand sounds a little scammy. But, the photos look like it could be in Utah. California plates match the description in the ad. They disclose a check engine light. So, maybe they pulled a value off Kelly Blue Book and went with that.
