Unhappy surprise this morning :(
So I left the car on the street last night at 11:30 and came out to this at 7:20
I'm convinced there's a big magnet hidden in the back of all Porsche but this is the first time it was turned on when stationary lol
Any way body shop thinks the whole panel need replacing or at least cut and patched with a new panel.

Well that sucks. The rear apron is plastic, easy to remove. My guess is you want to go thru insurance, but that dent probably could be popped out from the other side and the paint buffed.
My lovely wife scrubbed my fender with the Tacoma and it polished right out. 1/8" closer and it would have been a whole lot worse since it was above on the rear quarter panel (metal part)

Yeah its a odd impact assuming it wasn't deliberate I don't think I've pissed any body off and if I have and I find out they will regret it lol.
I think was a truck the bumper is the tire and the panel / light the fender.
Yeah going through insurance with the local Porsche approved body shop although I wasn't impressed when I went in for the estimate but we will see.

Yeah I was thinking it might get close to totaled
My concern is the ability of any shop to truly do a 'factory' repair on a galvanized body with enclosed sections. So now's the time to find out as I was jsut about to rebuild the front suspension, new struts and tires all round.

Sorry to see this man, best of luck with insurance.
On the same subject, my mother lives in Manhattan and had 2006 330i. She loves driving so wanted to keep the car even when living in the Manhattan. In three years of having the car there she had side smashed, two rear bumpers destroyed, one front bumper destroyed, mirror knocked off, and incalculable number of "courtesy" key or some bull **** marks left on the car. Not once anyone left a note after bumping the car. She showed me the thousands of dollars she spent on body-work through no fault of her own, it was insane.
She finally had enough few month ago and asked me to sell the car. Just to blow my mind, I was crossing the street in Harlem, saw a cab stop, black woman swung the door open right into the tail light of the parked car and broke it, said "oh I am sorry" and went off. Unbelievable.
Bimmer gold sold in three days though.

OP, I feel for you. Been rear ended in her 996 3 times in 10 months
Magnets indeed.
The hit I took in January required a new bumper skin. $2200 for the part by itself.
Honestly I don't think mine needed to be replaced (other driver's insurance had to pay so I wasn't arguing), so if anyone wants to see if it is really still usable PM me and I'll get you in contact with the shop that has it.

If it gets totaled buy it back and have a paintless dent guy pop it out and fix it. If you're okay with the results keep it, if not, sell it for significantly more than the buyback price and take the 3k-5k in profit and put it into the budget for the next one.
