Unhappy surprise this morning :(

Hard to imagine having that happen to your Porsche and the culprit that did it just drove away. I do believe in karma though and maybe, just maybe, that person will be on the receiving end next time. Hope it can be fixed adequately for you.

Yeah no dumper trucks, it happened sometime between 11:30 pm and 7:20 am I'm tempted to walk around the neighbor hood and look for matching damage.
Tokyopav I like the dash cam idea, may be I can connect it to a flame thrower

The plastics guys can do amazing stuff with the bumper cover. It's obviously going to need to be painted, but you may be pleasantly surprised about the bumper cover. The fender sucks. It looks like the tail light made it through unscathed?

The tail light is scuffed and cracked.
<y main concern is the shop was heading towards cutting the panel and replace and I'm concerned how you weld a galvanized panel and not destroy the galvanizing.

They want to cut out the damaged part and weld in new material? That's a new one on me for a car for which parts are readily available.
If your light is going to get replaced, consider taking that part of the settlement and updating to LED tails...if you like the look, anyway.

I'm not sure what's the right thing to do there. A Porsche Approved Collision Center would be the place to take the car for an estimate and discussion about the repairs.

Yeah its the Porsche / Audi approved body shop and I checked the Porsche manuals and they have directions of where to cut and join panels, but I'm still concerned about the rust resistance of any repair.
So I got the estimate back $9,828 !! cost of the rear bumper $2,212 cost of new panel $2,048 cost of lamp (later model smoked) $605.
The good news is the insurance is waving my deductible

Congrats on the deductible being waived.
$2K for a bumper cover...that part is worth more than many of the cars I've owned over the years. Are you going to have the shop do any additional work while you're there?

Yeah I asked for a quote to redo the front bumper and hood stone chips $1850 !! but they want to take it back to bare metal and flair into the front wings / fenders to ensure a color match so its OK but I will probably pass at this point.

Fwiw I spent $3k do get the front bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors reprinted. They also filled the license plate holes and fixed some poorly repaired paint around the rear.
