Need some clarification. In am doing an oil change and I am installing a Ln magnetic drain plug. I thought the torque spec for the oil drain plug was 37 lb/ft but there is a sticker on the drain that says 19 lb/ft. 19 lb/ft seems a bit low for the drain plug. Ln and flat 6 are closed today so I'm hoping someone here can clarify this for me.
I used the magnetic drain plug at 37 ft lb and on the third oil change, the head sheared off. I would suggest you check with LN. As far as I remember, LN is now suggesting a lower torque value for the magnetic drain plug. I have found in my experience, that the drain plug does not leak with 20 ft lb and the filter housing is just hand tightened.
[QUOTE=carguy999;requirements not though, on their site it says 37 again.....[/QUOTE]
The torque specs are written on the face of the drain plug. For the older aluminum drain plug, it is 26nm or 19ft-lb. For the new billet steel, it is 50nm or 37 ft-lb. If you apply 37 ft-lb to the aluminum one, you will damage the drain plug and possible the pan. Here are the images to help with the data:
Confirmed - I chatted with LN and "go with what is written on the plug" is correct. The description on the site (at least for the trans drain plug) was wrong but I think they will update that soon.
