Default Broken cup holder assistance, please

OK, so not the biggest worry in life, but the little spring-tab thingy on the front cup holder is broken. On the track now, sometimes my Starbucks sloshes a bit more that I would like.

2003 C2

It's the cup holder type where there are two cup holders that pull out from the dash, not the two side-by-side ones.

Three questions:

1. How does the cup holder unit come out?

2. Any idea what a new one costs, roughly?

3. Any idea who might have a used one?

Note: I did spend at least 5 minutes searching the forums before posting this, so don't get on my case if there's a thread somewhere.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I found it on Suncoast, Part# Code: 9965521830201C, $325. So, I refer back to Questions 1 and 3.

Doesn't answer your question but as an option may want to consider ultimatecupholders.com. I picked up 2 of them as I just don't like the idea of placing a cup of coffee in the factory holders directly over the stereo/nav unit.
Quality made holders and I keep mine down low and out of the way but convenient enough to grab without looking.
Just another option.....

It should just pop out with a firm tug.

I bought a new one...about $125 if I recall.
Haven't installed it yet.

I bought a used one on ebay Germany for about 50 euro and had a friend over there ship it to me.

Very easy to install. I pulled off the horseshoe, then pulled the upper vent off then the cup holder. Not sure you need to take the vent out or not, but the entire thing shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

I didn't even know my '04 had a cupholder until some weeks after purchase last Fall. Sometimes it even works. Had it removed and a fix attempted. No dice. Discovered that by sorta rocking it with thumb and forefinger (a form of foreplay) it will usually open. I do that little dance happily as opposed to the $325 or so the $2.00 replacement brings. There just aren't any good aftermarket alternatives nor places to affix them in that Porsche's interior. As my Avatar demonstrates, I've been addicted to soft drinks since Ike was president and believe that's why he put those handy rest stops every few miles along his National Defense Interstate Highway System.

Ha! Yeah, I had my car for a couple weeks before I discovered the cup holder too, and then another couple weeks before I discovered the "secret" second cup holder! I was so stoked!!

I got a new one in January from DC automotive in NC...$175. Wasn't very hard to install, once I watched a few videos on Youtube to see how the center console comes apart. Once you've got it in, you've got to slide the front cover to get it to pop out. Seems awfully complex for a simple part.Good luck!

Same issue and same solution. The Ultimate Cupholder works great AND looks very cool in the stainless with my cabin interior.

The OEM Cupholder is a marvel of German Engineering.

It is located over expensive electronics.

It blocks the main air vent.

It gets stuck. A lot.

At least the glove box works.

I just removed mine when installing a new stereo (only to notice that the plastic on the front of my cupholder is cracked and should be replaced :-( )

You need to remove the top vent first which is held on by two small clips on the top of the A/C vent. I found the easiest way to get this is with 2 tiny screwdrivers that fit in the holes in the middle of the clips. Pull down on both clips and the top vent pulls out. The cupholders are held in place by two clips on the top that should be obvious once the vent is removed (if I remember right).

Thanks again, all...

I looked on Ebay... doesn't seem to be any used ones listed, at least at the moment. I'll try calling a couple of the used Porsche parts places.

Regarding ultimatecupholders.com... you don't keep kicking it by accident if installed on the driver's side?

Not at all. I actually have mine on the passenger side. It's easier to access for me.
