Miles per tank?

911- GT car. GT car goes places far away. Mileage is a huge consideration and a huge appeal of the 911. Porsche prides themselves on having their cars avoid the gas guzzler tax that hits almost all other high performance cars.
@ BAD.TAG, that is the ticket to high miles. On all of my cars I drive with cruise control on 95% of the time.
The torque of the engine is also very well matched to the rev range. My Acura constantly has to downshift when going up I17 on cruise, sometimes even to 3rd gear on very steep sections when doing 85MPH-90MPH. Porsche on the other hand, never breaks at a sweat. It sits right above 3k RPM at 90mph. Exquisite machine.

If you're getting more than 20mpg out of your 996, you're driving it all wrong.

Guys,
I know it is high performance. I know it is going to burn gas.....I only ask the question because I am getting so far below what Porsche says I should get in town....I just want to know if something is wrong with my car. I don't want be bathing the cylinder walls in unburned fuel.
If everyone else was getting 14-16 miles per gallon in town.....I would just accept the fact that Porsche, like most manufacturers, publishes numbers better than reality.

Still exploring the capabilities of my "new" car.
Fuel economy, while an aspect of performance, is not yet on my horizion. I get basically 4-5 days on a tank, given my GF's location about 30min. away on mostly highway. Otherwise, I just run errands and pick up my son from school. That would be high-stoplight-density type driving. I do live in a semi-rural area so I get a fair amount of high rev driving in.
But, mostly, as I've said before, I run in a lower gear to keep the revs around 3k.
Purely anecdotal but that's why I'm on a message board and not publishing technical manuals.

You paid a lot of money for a high performance sports car, presumably because of the high performance part; that performance is worthless if you don't take advantage of it. If mpg is your priority, you bought the wrong car.
