I suppose that it not coming apart easily is actually a good thing...but damn.

Well judging by how much engine oil is in the bearing and the fact that it had a significant difference in resistance than the new one I received from Pelican, I would have to say it was probably on its way out eventually? Haha

You need to cut it apart to make a call like that.

Poor thing probably only had a couple hundred thousand miles left in it...

Apparently, innumerable fragged engines, a class-action settlement, and subsequent designs in which it is deleted are not sufficient proof that the IMS bearing is now in the preventive maintenance column.

Because he referred to how much oil was in the bearing as opposed to how much bearing was in the oil.

Only one in twenty 996 engines have been known to fail. I think those are the stats in the USA. I wonder what they are in Europe where drivers KNOW how to drive a manual car. Probably one in a hundred if the truth is known. Is that alright 5CHN3LL ? I bet there will be a few on here wish they could cue Hurdi.. Yeh with a ****ing billiard cue hahaha

Too bad I didn't have the ability to cut it in half but for those that care, the bearing was still very solid. No side to side slop, even the new one from pelican I got had a little side to side movement.

But who knows. At a 100k miles and has to be serviced now, I'm not complaining.

Autofarm was posting detailed information about this and other modes of M96 failure in '06 and before, Hurdi, so I don't think this is a problem unique to the NA market.

1 in 20 - which is higher than your previously unsubstantiated facts - is still a 5% failure rate. Would you buy a plane ticket on an airline that offered a 95% chance you'd arrive at your destination alive?

I don't understand why your knickers are so twisted about the consideration of the IMS bearing as a wear item.
