Default Any 100k + cars out there without IMS replacement

As the owner of a 2002 Carrera w/64k that hasn't been upgraded yet, I'm curious if I'm being reckless not having the clutch, IMS and RMS done yet or what I read is internet hysteria. My Porsche mechanic says my bearing is silent and it will give you some warning because it starts making noise. They quoted me $2100 for the clutch, IMS and RMS by the way.

45,000 miles here on an 03 C2. I had the clutch and RMS replaced 2500 miles ago - the clutch went to clutch heaven, so I did the RMS thing at the same time.

Now I'm wondering if I should go for the 'latest" IMS replacement/upgrade/fix. My indy called to say there is now an "oil bathed" unit. That sounds better than the ceramic fix to me, and he is now suggesting I step up and do the fix. Cost was quoted at "about $2k"
Maybe he'll throw in an oil change, too

SR cars? Those are called Unicorns sir, and they do not exist.

I dont think hes referring to "the solution" as I think its more than $2000 installed. It sounds more like hes referring to my ingenious sealess oil bathed bearing which is much less than $2000. PM me if your interested in the much less expensive "common sense solution".

The marketing hype and self promotion here by some is shameless so be careful!

131K and climbing When we did the clutch at 107K, the mechanic said that everything looked good and if the IMS hasn't gone bad at this point, it is probably not going to go bad. I took his word and now 24K miles later she is running just fine

1999 C2 with 114,000 miles, original IMS bearing.

1999 Boxster with 126,000 miles on original IMS bearing.

1997 Boxster with 204,000 miles engine failed. Got more than my money's worth. Don't know what broke, don't care.

The parts alone are 1700 and 10 hours works? They charge $40 per hours? This does not make sense.

Agreed. That price is either very good, or something is up.

My C4S has 95K miles, previous owner only did RMS, no IMSB with clutch change. KK is misleading you (not the first time) here is the oil fed no-bearing solution:
http://www.flat6innovations.com/

"It sounds more like hes referring to my ingenious sealess oil bathed bearing which is much less than $2000. PM me if your interested...The marketing hype and self promotion here by some is shameless so be careful!"

You are a hypocrite.
