Painted Roof
Has anyone with a silver 996 had their roof painted black or has anyone seen a silver 996 with the roof painted black? I was unable to find any pictures or threads of anyone doing this. I was thinking it would look good gloss black and flow better with the back glass and windshield, but wanted to see it on a car first. Any opinions?

You could try "plasti-dipping" to see how it looks......... I did to my mitsubishi to cover peeling of the clear coat.....it has been holding pretty good for the last 3 months, and can be removed at any time (like a wrap).......it looks just like the pics.....total expense about 10 dollars (2 cans of plasti-dip)....

Does Plasti-Dip have a gloss color though? I wanted it to look as similar to the glass as possible and maybe look like it has a full panoramic sunroof.

I don't think Plasti comes in gloss. But, here is a picture of the gloss black wrap by KI Studios. Not paint glossy but glossy nonetheless. Cheaper than paint too.

Plasti is only matte, but then there is a separate "clear-gloss" plasti-dip if you want to shine the previous coat.....all very easy to remove......if you change your mind.....
Check the videos in utube.....and no, I do not own any shares in that company.......I just use their product quite often.....cannot beat the results for the price.....

Gator did you put the wrap on yourself? How difficult was it? I've seen videos on youtube doing the hood but they make it seem real easy. The sunroof seems to be where it would be the most difficult.

That isn't my car but I wanted to show an example of how good wrap can look. I have purchased other items from KI Studios and Kyle makes some good stuff.
Install is not overly difficult. With the size of a hood, its a two person job. You can apply it dry or wet but I always opt for the wet application of decals. It gives you so much more playing time and fine tune time.
I haven't gotten around to wrapping my hood yet and am probably selling my 996 very soon anyhow.

I just spoke to Kyle at Ki Studios and they don't have the pre cut wrap for the roof, just a 5x5 gloss black sheet that he sells with the install kit for $120 + tax and shipping. He recommends having an experienced installer do the roof though. I might just go have my roof done like how Azaytsev has his, that's what I was pretty much aiming for.

wrap the roof is pretty easy, just need to clean the roof before the job, and doing the wrap under the sun will save you a lot of time to heat the vinyl.
