I would look at Craigslist prices of '01s with 65km ... And discount 10-15% given mileage of rest of car .. But new shocks ... Was 60k service done on new engine ? That is worth $1k+ . I'm guessing around $18k ....

Still amazes me that you can get such a great car for under $20k. I know that's not pocket change but c'mawn!!! What a value.

Not a bad idea. 60k service has not yet been done, but will be done early next year unless it is sold. New shocks, tires and control arms make the car drive like new. What a difference.

I agree. The car is fantastic and hasn't failed me except with a dead battery one day, but in all fairness, it was a 4-year old battery and I live in south Florida. I drive the car whenever I want and don't just let it sit. Religiously waxed. Religious oil changes and not a dime spared and I still think the car looks great. The fister mufflers are the best part of the car. I think I just mind-f&"/ed myself out of selling it, but I'll list it and see what I get and report back so eveyone has a basis.

Frankly, i thought the pricing would be lower. Not that i'm selling but it bodes well for my 2003 C4s with 137k miles. I love the thing and I bought another daily driver just so I could enjoy this thing for another 20 years. I hope.

I'll keep her as long as she'll keep me, is what I say.

Good luck!

Do you pay sales tax in your state? If so, the trade in amount will be deducted from the taxable sale price which could save you a little more than a grand.

If you want a 991, then just trade in the 996. You're looking at a hundred thousand dollar car and when push comes to shove, they'll give you $13k or $14k to make the sale. The hassle of trying to sell privately for a few grand more is just silly.

That's especially because MK1 996's are sales proof. Nobody wants one. I'm really sorry to say that. I'm not knocking the car, but let's face it. They don't have a very good reputation.

Look at the AutoTrader ads. You can see how long the ads have been up, and there are literally hundreds available that have been for sale for over a year.

If you can afford a 991, why screw around? The leather dash option will be more than the trade in difference you're talking about.

Move on and get the car you want.

I agree with you about the 996. Agree with you about trading in, agree with you about length of ads, but a difference of a few thousand dollars is nothing to overlook. A few thousand here and a few thousand there is a big deal to a lot of people who can afford a 991

I hear ya. I don't mean to be trivial about real amounts of money. However, your old 996 is a liability, and a big one.

My last 996 (04 C4S Cabrio with 94k miles) had the ABS pump fail overnight without warning. That's a $4k problem that could happen to you at any second. Same goes for a myriad of other problems with aging high mileage 996's.

Cars are bad investments generally. The risk of a high cost problem occurring in the time it takes you to sell your car at a premium (anything more than trade in) is very high. IMO, it is not worth taking that risk. Get the car you want. It'll have a warranty, for a while.

I'd be more worried about depreciation of a brand new 991 (bag of worms) Why not get a low mileage 997S you could by for about half of what they went for new?

Nothing against the 997S, but really like the look of the 991. If I don't have luck selling my 996 privately, I may be compelled to trade it, but would prefer to try. Sounds like bad luck re: abs pump. No questions cars are bad investments, but to the extent I can minimize my loss, I'd like to try.

I don't know if I can agree with your one thousand dollar logic. Your 991 depreciation in one month is well over one thousand dollars. Obviously, that $1K can be tossed around.

Test the water and try selling it yourself, you may be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Otherwise we're all just guessing. GL

I have been reading here , and I am on the market for 996 with a IMSB install..
I am selling or trading my 03 Boxster S , only because , we like the room in a 911 , when we take our extended road trips and go camping. We did a lot of this driving in my old 84 Carrera.

do you mean to say all 996's have a bad reputation? Or are you claiming that facelifted 996's don't?

People are leary of getting into a decade+ old Porsche period. And I have to wonder if the supply of the non-antique air-cooled Carreras were as robust as 996 and 997s if they too could oustrip the demand for an out of warranty, not particularly fast (by current standars) or reliable (by current standards) foreign car that demands expensive parts and specialized labor.

p.s.
To the OP, did you end up selling? if so what did you end up accepting? I recently saw that a privately sold 2001 Boxster S with no real options went for $14K with ~70K miles, it sold in less than a week in Texas. I doubt a C2 would get 50% more but somewhere in between sounds right.

you'll be lucky to get $14-15K privately - newer engine nice but 121K is high miles on chassis - seems many 996 owners don't know the true market value of these cars.
you could advertize if for $20K and let it sit around for 2 years like most of the other 996 sellers - i've been a 996 seller and now i'm a 996 buyer so i speak from experience and recent research of marketplace.
