Default Value of 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera with 121,000 miles

I'm thinking of buying a 991 and I'm thinking about selling my 996 privately. I prefer to sell it privately rather than trade it in because I think the dealer is giving me less than Kelly Blue Book, edmunds and Nada. What do you think my car should sell for privately? I have a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera with 121,000 miles. Arctic Silver, grey supple leather seats. New factory Porsche engine at 65,000 miles (in July 2007 with updated ims bearing). Doesn't burn, consume or leak any oil. New OEM Porsche shocks, control arms and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. New hood shocks and brakes. new coolant expansion tank. Factory painted center console, tequipment shifter and handbrake lever, 3-spoke steering wheel, rear wiper, hi-fi sound. Fister mufflers, but otherwise stock. Car has a scratch on driver's door which I didn't fix because I was told I'd have to repaint the whole side for the color to blend. I put a lot of money into keeping the car perfectly maintained because I like to drive it and didn't expect to want a 991, but I don't want to trade it in for less than wholesale either. Opinions very much welcome. My car is in my avatar.

Not to bring you down, but be prepared to take 18-19k. Obviously location really affects value, but I've seen similar (miles & year) cars listed for less. Best case you get more than you expected.

My advice: Don't mention the new engine in the ad. To the knowledgable buyer a new engine is great. To the average buyer it's a red flag. From the last 5+ cars I've sold, they've all been to 'average knowledge' people. This includes an enthusiast car (s2000).

I would say around 19-20k private sale. Dealer trade in will be much less. Its hard to use KBB, Nada ect with the new engine.

I agree with this comment. Sorry, man. What were they offering you?

First: thanks to all for the quick responses.

I M STIG: no worries. I was offered $12,000.00. I was hoping to sell it privately for just under $20,000.00, but didn't know if that was realistic.

I agree. I bought the car only because of the new engine, but the dealer I bought it from admitted that he shouldn't have said so in the ad because it scared buyers away

When I was looking to buy a Porsche. I looked all over US and it seemed that FL and California had the lowest prices in comparison with Midwest and the lowest price I saw was $16k which it was not in its great shape. I would most likely post it for $20k but not go lower then $17k. Look around and see how much they go for in your area with similar miles.

A new engine? OMG that's horrible. I'll give you $5K for the car.

Seriously you have to present the new engine in a positive light. How about: In spite of the fact the car has over 100K miles the engine has just 65K miles.

Barely broken in.

Barely broken in? The first engine broke at 65K... now the new engine has almost that amount on it??

I would think you are in the ballpark at around $20K. The car looks clean, and its a flippin' PORSCHE! Just my .02 (and yes, I am a newbie here)

$5k? Done. Jk. It really is barely broken in. I had put a 991 out of my head because of how well it's running and, a few years ago,I bought the 18" lightweight wheels. It was love at first sight all over again. Every time I see a 991, I feel like I'm cheating on my 996.

I'm going to try listing it privately. It may sound sick since I'm getting rid of the car and shouldn't care what happens to it, but someone should get the benefit of the money I put into the car instead of it ending up at an auction in who knows what hands. Thanks to all for your comments. Much appreciated.

Default the marketplace speaks, we should listen

Unfortunately, the marketplace has spoken on high mileage German cars, including p-cars. And it says "run the other way" to many prospective buyers.

Best sales channel=your local PCA region's newsletter where you will be dealing with well informed prospects.
