Question Considering MY01 996 C2 Cabrio

Have been reading the forums with great interest. Nice to see such an active group here. I have bought a 996 Cabrio that has had the following work done:

At 35200
- New IMS bearing retrofit upgrade kit (know this is important)
- New clutch
- New RMS
- New Bosche battery
- New engine mounts
- Renewed AOS (not sure what this is?)

At 35405
- Replaced rear spoiler drive mechanism

At 36066
- New MAF to fix cold engine stutter/surge
- New fluids all round (oil/filter,brake,clutch slave, diff, tranny)
- Replaced chain tensioners
- Corrected camshaft timing, one was 9.5 degress out of spec

Car now has 36400 miles.

It is badged as a C4 but is not (confirmed by porsche dealer and self study). This is the most confusing/disgusting part, I mean, who DOES that? I will badge it correctly. Really upset me in the beginning, but it is a very nice clean C2, lighter car, etc and not like I will be racing or driving in the snow.

The previous owner is a wealthy man and put over 10K in the car before he traded it in for two new Lexi, paying cash...

Paying 28K.... What say ye Pcar guru's?

AOS=Air oil separator. If's it's bad, usually causes engine to smoke and or causes an oil leak. Not expensive for the part, but a PITA to get to.

Look for the option label underneath the frunk and post a picture. That will help determine the value. From what you can see and from the things already done, probably not too bad a deal. One note though, either the side skirts are aftermarket or they're OEM MKII; should be MKI based on the year. Not a big deal, just pointing it out.

Good luck on the purchase!

I was asking for opinions in my recent post https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...or-01-cab.html

A local Porsche dealer has For Sale and I could get this one for $28,500 but decided to back off. Had a new top and accompanying factory hard top.

Those darn C2 owners always trying to fool people into thinking they have a C4!!

Really, maybe the previous owner replaced the rear deck with one from a C4.

OP, what is the color of the car? The lighting can be deceiving, but it almost looks like Viola Metallic as mine.

As a minimum, you know you won't have to get into the engine/transmission for a very long while, about the only thing you may want to consider changing is the water pump given the age.

Congrats on a lovely car!

Where is the "option label" located in the frunk? Thanks!

aviography, mine is more a dark blue... still gathering all the data and will post color name if I find it.

Anyone know of a vin decoder site that does not require a customer number to use?

It's a self adhesive paper sticker under the hood.

The color code will be on a metal data plate hidden behind the carpeted cover on the driver side of the frunk. Guess your digital camera is fooled by the ambient lighting as the color looked somewhat purple.

http://www.autoatlanta.com/life/vin/vin.php worked pretty well for me.
