Default Current market trade-in from dealer, carmax and 3rd party

I figured some might be interested by the current value of their beloved

I am selling my 2003 Carrera. The car is in perfect condition and as clean as anyone could expect, clean carfax and all. Not showroom condition because of rock chip and few dings but overall very good. It has 41k miles.

My local Porsche dealer wanted to give me $19k, then 20k then 21k at which point I walked away as I felt they low ball me so much to begin with.

Carmax offered me $24k, not bad for 6 day guarantee cash buy price.

As for 3rd party sale, I had couple of people interested buying the car at $28k, but considering the extra headache to sell direct, I might actually let it go to carmax. the main problem of 3rd party is that they all want to bring the car to their mechanics and keep bargaining the price. Can't blame them really but on the seller side, it is so much easier selling to a dealer.

I hope this will help some get an idea of the current pricing.
BTW this is all in Miami Florida.

I almost traded in my 2003 C2 with 41k about 6 weeks ago.
I was there to test drive a 2008 M5 6mt. They offered me 24k.
M5 was mint with plenty of warranty left. In the end I couldn't do it.
M5 felt soulless compared to the 996. Having said that, next year I
will be looking to upgrade to a 2006 carrera.

I did test drive an M6 and a C63 while I was waiting for the appraisal, fun cars but everything feels heavy after the 911, it is such a small car

The M6 and C63 pushed really hard, softer ride on the M6, but the DCT transmission while great when hammering it, is a pain at slow speed as it feel very hesistant and change gears all the time.
The C63 is quite a machine but suspension are certainly a match for the GT3. Great dual purpose car, nice kick for the on ramps and then it settle for a less involving ride, would be perfect with magnetic ride control and m3 steering

For the price nothing beats the 996!

Do these equal www.kbb.com and other online appraisals?

M6 is a GT touring car and is far from a proper "sports car". Ask any hardcore BMW enthusiasts and the 6 series would be on the bottom of their list as a driver's car. Most equate 6 series with Grandpa cars.

As for C63, it's still a Mercedes afterall and is never tuned for a true enthusiast(power aside) and still quite heavy. I find it very ironic that AMG line is suppose to be sporty yet have you actually weighed any AMG wheels? I don't even know why they have a traction control defeat switch when it truly isn't. Ok, rant off...

I lol half the time at these comparos pitting a once new
~100k exotic "sports car" to a 4 dr saloon. Current pricing is one of the few valid comparisons that can be made IMO.

Wow for that price I'd rather keep it... You won't be able to pick up a car that gives you the same amount of enjoyment for that price... Or sell it privately a few grand over trade in...

For $4,000 I can do a little paperwork with a private owner. You could also work out as agreement with a consignment dealer to conduct the transaction for a flat fee or percentage. That is how I sold my 968.

If you can get close to 28k from private party that's probably at higher end of the ballpark, not really knowing specific details of your car / upcoming servicing needed. Selling / buying a car private party is usually a nightmare dealing with people and them backing out etc.

Your car looks very clean and well kept up, GLWS!

I have always sold my cars privately, never encountered a 'nightmare' dealing with people, and stuck the extra $ in my pocket rather than a third party. Sure, it may take a little extra work, but the payoff is worth it to me.

the nice thing about car max, is they are pretty fare. They will ship that car to where they can get 26-28 for it, I think they have their own carriers too.

I have dealt with them a few times and they always paid good money for the car.
