Default Bizarre noise coming from rear at startup

This just started this morning, everytime I start the car I get a weird noise coming from the rear of the car. Doesn't matter if the car is cold or hot. Not low on oil.

Has anyone heard anything like this before?

Thanks

Turns out that it comes and goes, just let the car rest for a few hours and went downstairs and i couldn't replicate the sound. This morning after the car sat for 24 hours, it did make the noise.

Sounds normal as soon as the starter stops wiring and the engine kicks in. No problem there as far as my ears go. Does it sound normal within seconds to you? It does to me. You maybe are a little paranoid. Whats the milage? Is it due for any servicing? what year is the car? C2 C4 TT or what?

2001 C4. It was definitely not a normal sound, maybe the video audio isn't great. I'll try to record it with something better tomorrow if I can recreate the sound.

You are not putting your toe on the accelerator as you are starting it up are you? No petrol is needed for the start.

It's not that Hurdi. It's a grinding noise, thinking it may be the starter making noise.

My car does that too! Does it sound like when something gets stuck in the vacuum cleaner? Kind of like a screeching sound but only for a second, right?

Yeh I can hear a high pitch sound from his starter as it is turning which I dont hear on mine. So maybe something is happening there.

I'v been chasing that bug for over one year.
I have even rebuilded the engine once, becouse one of the rodbearing's failed. But the noise is still there.

Mine does it only when I stop and let the engine cool down about 30min's

I think that it's the flywheel.... Planning to drive it until I need new cluch.

Most likely the starter. Mines in right now getting replaced for the same noise.

That was my guess too, thanks for the post. How much is that setting you back parts and labor?

Mine does this too. It has done it on and off from day one!
If I drive to the petrol station, fill up and then when I turn the key it happens. Sounds like a slipping belt I thought

Classic starter issue. The drive gear is staying engaged when it shouldn't.
