Default 2nd gear issue

i have been all threads about 2nd gear grinding and popping,,

my issue is a bit different,, my 02 4S had a short shifter kit and everytime it goes into 2nd its a 50/50 chance it grinds as am releasing clutch pedal,, i thought that ssk not providing enough throw for 2nd to sit properly in place,, so i am back now to stock shifter but the problem is yet still,, shifting is like butter,, no grinds or pop-outs,,

it feels like gear is half way in place,,

please,, help,,

It could be the synchros or it could be that the cable adjustments got off when the SSK was installed. If that was the case it could cause a synchro problem.

Best to get it checked by someone who knows their way around these tranny's

I agree with those that have already commented, I had the popping out of 2nd gear issue when I first bought my 99 996 with 117K on the clock last year. I installed the Gbox mod and have never had the problem since. I am very happy with Gbox and their fix. Gbox does say that there mod will not help for syncros already damaged. Anyway anyone having the 2nd gear pop out problem, Gbox has the fix. It works.

Time to call Gbox!
Those were my initial symptoms and then the pinion started to get noisy as well.
Gbox provided a rebuild that is whisper quiet and smooth shifting!

2nd gear is a biatch, especially when cold. I have to concentrate on that shift, and all the others are silky smooth. I want Gbox!

Not in my case!
Although when my transmission was rebuilt by them, they did include this detent upgrade that they developed. (my problems were bigger than just 2nd gear pop out!)

Mine sometimes has the 2nd gear grind issue when cold as well. Once the trans is warmed up - there are no issues going into 2nd. On a cold day / cold start - I sometimes even avoid 2nd gear altogether.
