Highest Milage and What Oil are you using?
Hello Everyone, I am a newbie with an 2004 C4S. I've been trying to read up on the different types of oils used in 996's. I've read so many different views on what to use ( M1 0w-40, Castrol 5w-40, Motul 5w-40, M1 15w-50, M1 Delvac 5w-40 etc.) I have always said that the "Proof is in the Pudding". Who has the highest milage 996 with original engine and what kind of oil are you using?

I do trust manufacturer recommendation 0w-40. In my previous Mercedes I trusted the manufacturer's recommendation of a sealed system for the transmission. Only to later changed to a recommended 60,000 mile trans oil change after a series of vehicles came in for a broken transmission after the original warranty had expired. I currently have 2 other Mercedes along with this C4s (this being my first Porsche). I've learned my lesson many times before and have traded in to many MBenz and Bimmers due to the manufacturers changing their minds. I want real world numbers. Proof is in the puddin folks. Thank you.

Here we go again - but its my turn to jump in......
Minimum 5W40 weight, oil changed every 5,000 miles (8,000km).
Forget SAE requirements, look for the European ACEA A3/B4 specs - far more stringent than SAE.
I personally us Shell Helix Ultra 5W40, but I believe its difficult to source in the US....

I follow the manual. 0W40 Mobil 1, and I change every ~10k (occasionally sooner based on circumstances). My oil analysis comes back clear and I have 115k miles on the original engine.

Let me see the manufacturer's recommendation was Mobil 1 0W40 with a 15,000 mile change interval. Well that's one reason I don't follow it, does anyone really agree with a 15,000 mile interval? Also in the manual that came with my car 0W40 is not even listed, but was later in a TSB.
The ZDDP in Mobil 1 was reduced sometime in the last 10 years.
I run Castrol 5W40 in the winter and 5W50 in the summer, change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles.

I'm at 109K miles on my original engine. I've always used Mobil 1 5W40. I typically change my oil at around 7,500 miles.
I've read about the changes to Mobil 1 over the last decade. I still think it's an excellent motor oil, but it's not the same as it used to be. My independent mechanic now recommends Schaeffer synthetic oils for Porsche vehicles. I haven't used it in the 911 yet, but I am running it in the Cayenne.

My CTT has 65k miles and according to previous records from owner and now me was using Mobil 1 as well. I might be changing this year to redline on the next oil change
