I believe Excellence assumes the car is driven about 12k miles a year. Their value of $31,500 would be for a car with about 100k miles.

Wow. This thread just made me feel really good about what I paid for my car.

I bought my '02 C4S with 90k miles, Fister exhaust, JIC coilovers, short shifter (and few other small mods), fresh brakes all around, new RMS/IMS bearing/clutch and a stack of maintenance receipts for $25k.

I would like to post pictures but I don't know how

Also, I own the car free and clear and have the title in hand.

I think upper 30's is very high. I really think $29K to $31K.

I have an 04' C4S convertible, less miles, well sorted, well optioned, convertible, that I have debated selling and my conclusion was that high 30's was the best I could do..so I still hold on to it because I like it more than the cash I could get for it.

The last one I recall in the for sale forum had 42K, asking $34K and sold it for $32K IIRC.

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchr...les&sf2Dir=ASC

There are several 40,000 - 50,000 mile examples for around $32k asking... There is some good history and what not on the OP's car but I cant see it pulling 35+ with that mileage, but maybe I'm more sensitive to mileage than most. I would expect to price the car at $32k and take a $30k offer if I wanted to move it in a reasonable amount of time...

I've noticed that with Porsche and BMW, that you don't get any of your money back on mods.

I bought my 2003 C4S in 2010 for $29K, but I think I got lucky!

A '06 997S convertible is asking $46K with 59K miles in the classifieds. Therefore a 997 non S would probably be around $40. I don't see how the market would pay for a '02 996 with higher mileage at a mid to high $30s.

When I bought the car back in 2006, I paid above market for it because of the condition/great history. Service records from day one were the key for me.

I looked at about 10 C4S' at dealers back in 2006. Even thought they all looked great in pictures and on the dealers websites, when I made the trips out there, they were all driven hard and put away wet.

I would never buy a used car without the service records from day one. None of those cars listed on cars.com, etc. will have any records. History/service records is the most important to me. I put a premium on it.

I always pay a little more for the "Right" car and it pays off. I've had no problems with the car for the 6 years I've owned it.

Dealers may sell the car for a few $$$ cheaper but they are usually cars from auctions. Don't believe the story a little old lady only drove it to church on Sundays.

My rule of thumb is if you have a great car, you sell it privately. If it's junk you trade it in. The cars that the dealers are selling are trade in's or auction cars.

My car has been on Rennlist since it was new in 2002. I bought it from a rennlist member. Spending slightly more for the right car now will save you a lot of $$$ in the future

The prices are all over the place for these. You wont get any offers near the mid 30k's. There are several listed for @20k. You can blame all the bad press for the low sale prices.

for a C2's probably, but all the C4S' except one are $29k or higher with no history/service records.

Everyone... before posting please note that this car is a C4S!!!

My thought is start mid-30s and see where that goes. If this was a silver or black car the price might be a bit stronger. Clearly I like a colorful car, but many do not.

993 "S" cars fetch $10K over narrow bodies and the production volume is much lower than 996. Since when high mileage 996S command $15K over?

Hmmm...

I picked up an '04 C4S (Midnight Blue on Grey) with a few more goodies, a few less miles (65K), and close to full documentation, about six weeks ago. I paid $33,000 and spent another $700 to get it to Los Angeles from Nashville. I think I did pretty well, but that could just be me patting myself on the back. The car was priced at $35K and then 34K, so I was able to negotiate a bit.
