Nailed it. Just bought my first 996. Haven’t even taken delivery of it yet. It’s at Fifth Gear Automotive in Dallas getting the ticking time bomb retrofitted. This thread has been highly entertaining but not very informative. It’s like asking what the best color in the world is.

I saw this thread come back to life and thought “Nine years of liquid amber entertainment!” Lots of classic rants, douchery, passed down opinion, a few factoids, snippets and some classic wtf moments.
In 9 years all of these oils have morphed significantly as, for instance, flat tappet cams wore out or plain failed due to lots of reasons (fodder for so many threads all over the WWW).

This is it. 2000 CS vert. 64k miles. $20k. PPI came back cherry. IMS, RMS, clutch being done on Tuesday. Should have it in the garage by Friday. I’m so excited I can’t sleep.

I met the owner of an oil company. https://www.raloylubricantes.mx/ They have a A40 certified synthetic oil produced in Mexico. Basically he said to use clean oil and change it often. I think whats important is mostly keeping clean oil in the engine. Im running 5w50 Mobil 1 right now and I did notice the oil pressure is a bit higher but the car ran fine with Autozone euro 5w40 with Porsche A40 Certification. Motor Oil is a business with lots of competitors and lots of them have A40 Porsche certifications. This points to just having clean oil is better that figuring out which oil is best. Just increase the change intervals in my opinion.
