That title isn't gonna get you far. You need to at least be a Senior Splash Lubrication Specialist.

Ok, so IMSB Threads get Boobie Bombed and Oil Threads must now feature detailed splash lubrication analysis. Perfecto.

Looks line no consensus on what is the "best" oil for these engines, which is fine. I plan on using M1 0W-40. Is there as hot of a debate on which oil filter to use? OEM vs. Mann vs. Bosch vs. Mahle? I see multiple options on Pelican and found the below as well. Anybody buy Mann from Amazon?

Amazon.com: Mann-Filter HU 719/5 X Metal-Free Oil Filter: Automotive Amazon.com: Mann-Filter HU 719/5 X Metal-Free Oil Filter: Automotive

There are definitely many different camps and strong opinions on which oil and filter to use. Flat Six Innovations recommends DT40 (XP9 if you are tracking the car), the spin on adapter with Napa 1042 filter, and a magnetic drain plug. They know these engines better than anyone so I just go with their recommendations.

I am a bit leery of the mobil 1 0w-40 myself, especially since there is money changing hands between mobil and porsche. I'm sure it will be more than sufficient to get a new car through the warranty period. In the turbo flat-four world that I'm from, Mobil 1 shears very quickly and rotella T6 or Motul were the blackstone confirmed oils of choice. The cylinder scoring that seems to happen in these cars is a bit alarming, and I will likely switch to T6 for my 996.

I think with frequent enough change interval, any oil of the right weight will be fine.
