Default engine died, waiting for prognosis

Saturday evening I exited the freeway after about a 20 minute trip from my house to an outdoor car show in Scottsdale. As I rolled to a stop on the exit ramp my idle shuddered and rumbled then stalled.
I didn’t hear any unusual mechanical sounds so I restarted it and drove off the ramp to a nearby parking lot. (100') The engine had little power and stuttered until it stalled and I rolled into a parking spot.

Tried cranking it again and it would not start, now it was making a sound like it wanted to start but a knocking from one of the cylinders. I called for a tow and had it dropped off at Becks European. They are checking it out now.

Hoping for some good news today

’03 c2 with 70k and LN IMS retrofit.

I hope it is something simple like stuck lifter and bad coil packs. Keep us posted.

Your in good company. Exact same thing just happened to be this morning 9:10am. Getting a tow and we'll see. Maybe there was a partial 996 solar eclipse this morning!

MAF? On non-Pcars, I've seen no starts and rough idles as a result of bad MAF's. In all those cases, too, the symptoms showed up out of nowhere.

When my maf died it was very similar. Rolled to a stop, clutch in, all the lights on the dash came on, bye. It would start again when the car cooled off but wouldn't hold an idle when warm.

Nothing confirmed yet but Frank found some plastic timing chain guide material and some main rod bearing material in the oil pan. They are removing the right cam cover this afternoon to investigate further. Either way it looks like a major issue requiring a rebuild.

I'll take the maf fail instead if I could LOL

you said no mechanical noises?

why did they drain the oil and look in there?

just wondering how they got there from here...did they rotate the motor? check fuel and spark...I mean its kinda weird but maybe they ended up there...not started

Route66 No update yet. I'll let you know when I get one. Off the top of his head he said fuel pump. I just got my car out the week before for shift cables, so I'm in no rush right now. I'll probably follow up Thursday or Friday to find out.

Hope your issue is solved with minimal effort and only a little $.
