just wondering how they got there from here...did they rotate the motor? check fuel and spark...I mean its kinda weird but maybe they ended up there...not started
I probably interpreted the knocking noise as a misfire when I tried to crank it after it stalled for the second time.

I’m assuming they also cranked or rotated it and recognized the noise as something they are familiar with prompting the removal of the pan.

I’ve thrown rods in other cars before and I heard nothing like that or anything other sound that is described by others on this forum when something catastrophic occurs to our 996’s

Hopefully I will have time to get over there tomorrow to see what they found.

It appears that I may have a spun rod bearing probably on bank 2. Beck’s is tearing down the engine and I may be heading towards a rebuild. They inspected the cylinders with a scope and the pistons look clean.
I could see some small bits of metal and chain guide material in the oil pan.
At this point depending on what condition the cylinders are in I could go with either a rebuild with new LN sleeves to 3.8 or just stay with what I have.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

wow, is having spun rod bearing just as bad as an IMS failure?

No, usually you can use most of the engine parts again. Just good cleaning and inspection. New bearings and maybe crankshaft.

In this case I'm not so sure that the diagnosis is right, atleast in my case car idled fine. Just the tapping noise telled it's sad story.
And there was lots of metal debries in the oilfilter and oil...

Have your indy tested the compression??

no compression test. The car would not start the second time and then later in the shop would not crank at all, frozen

so i'm hoping most of the parts are good and at intial inspection they seemed to be. Like you said the crank and bearings took the brunt

These car and engine are supposed to be bullet proof...this is the first time i heard a spun rod bearing with just 70K....
Sometimes i'm questioning myself regarding the reliability of these 911...
Bye Bye

but that isnt the intended use of "these car" - I think you're suppose to drive them...and then they wear.

some wear well, some need fixin along the way...they all wear, they all need fixin'

damn, that’s what I feel like happened to my car, although my insurance would have probably covered an ambush
