Default Car didn't start today. Turn key, no crank. Battery ok.

So got to a gas station to fill her up. No indication of anything wrong.

Get into car and turn the key, and nothing. The battery is less than 6 months old. I recently reached the electrical portion of the ignition switch a few months ago as the key was getting stuck.

Was about to call a tow truck when I tried the key and with an extended pause in the start position, the car started.

What else could it be? Bad ignition switch ( napa part)? Starter? Starter solenoid? Alternator ( which I doubt as there is no indication of low electrical current), Or faulty clutch switch?

I'm all ears

I'm going to take a guess and say to look at the ignition switch first. When mine started to go bad I began running into some rally strange symptoms like the car not starting, the A/C not working, radio not working, etc.

Did any of the gauges come up when you turned the key? If not then the ignition switch is probably the cause.

Not giving us a lot of info about the car but two most likely culprits are ignition switch and the clutch switch (if6spd).

How large is your key chain?? I've seen heavy key chains put more strain on an ignition switch over time, causing them to fail...

6 speed car, all instruments working and my key has no other key or keychain.

Car started without a hitch last night coming from dinner and started fine this morning to go to work.

Guess I'll take a peek at the ignition switch again?

Probably not the ignition switch.

Not much checking you do of the switch unless you remove it from the dash.

Even then -- I have one out of my Boxster -- the switch doesn't have any obvious things to check to determine if it is bad or good.

A better use of your time, and if you don't mind throwing a few dollars in parts at the symptom, is to replace the clutch interlock switch.

Sincerely,

Macster.

We had a Boxster that came in with the same problem. It would start cold no problem but when hot no start. The first thing we did is scan the DME and it had a stored code for DME voltage signal implausible (or something like that). Turned out the DME was going bad and needed to be replaced. To do this the car has to go through the dealer.

Jumper the wires leading to the clutch switch to eliminate first off... I had this problem not too long ago.

Default DME

I had similar problem a while ago - battery good - not ignition switch - but DME fuse had come loose - when I reseated the fuse I have never had the problem since. Easy thing to check.
