Ivangene, Compare a 996 Cab to a new Camaro Convertible... 3200 lbs vs 4200 lbs. So which one is a Sports Car and which is a Sporty 2 door Sedan? Everything gets bigger as the years go by (well almost everything). The 996 was lighter than the 993, but now we are getting "fatter" again.
I agree the 997 looks bigger and I think part of it is the visual shape - in particular the front & rear bumpers. The 997 and even latter Mk II C2 & C4's have shapes that make for a bulkier look (which some folks like). And from what I have read about the "998?" or what ever they call it - it will grow by several inches in wheelbase and perhaps elsewhere.
I still think the Mk I 996's simple shape looks more like the original "Long Hood" 991 than any later series.

I agree - there's not that much difference between the 996 and the 997 - they are very similar. Much greater differences between say, a 996 and a 993. All good cars, but you can get a 996 for an incredible deal - there even a few 996 C2s here in Calgary, Canada for around $20K - and you just can't go wrong with this much car for the money.

I have heard that the new 2012 will be designated as 991. And to back up the observation of cars getting bigger, here is what I found on the 991.
The car has grown 2.2 inches in length and 4.0 inches at the wheelbase, but the front and rear overhangs are shorter, 1.3 and 0.5 inches respectively. The car’s roofline is also lower by 0.5 inches.

V8 4546 lbs...but check the size - WB 101.4 hahaha its 15" shorter wheelbase than the Challenger!! Length 168.8 a whopping 29" shorter!! and W 70.5 (5 inches narrower)
this is funny as hell and has nothing to do with this thread but WOW!!! i am shocked that the "new muscle car" is SOOOO much bigger than the huge pig station wagon (specs are the Estate wagon)

I have been more and more SIZE aware and the 996 is much smaller than the 997...the farther back you go the smaller the cars get - its not just Porsche, I see it everywhere
the other day I was looking at a Volvo 240 wagon..a ficking WAGON and it was TINY compared to even the Mini Cooper...seriously, looked TINY! - and this week I was following one of those new ugly Dodge Charger/Challenger whatever ugly *** cars (OMG they could not have made that thing any uglier from the rear ehh??) and next to it was a mid 90's Buick Roadmaster station wagon (I know right how many of those are left on the highway) and ....you guessed it, the roadmaster was smaller looking....I swear it! I stared back and forth in shock and though MY GAWD look how big that stupid Dodge is..... but the more I compare older cars to new ones the more I realize (just like your supersized soda and french fries) we are being fed more crap than we asked for, wanted, or need....gotta go wash my suburban...later!![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
