Is it just me, or have some of you guys visited a dealer and looked at the prices of the new 911, even the base model. I think I got one hell of a deal on the car used and it is paid off. The design is classic and most people think it is brand new.
We have a few GT3 out here at the dealer and a nice GT2R running about $225K on the sticker. The 996 is a great deal for a used 911..

I think so too. I found myself coveting 997 headlights until I bought a VW Bug - now I have them. At a recent event, I was parked next to a few 997's and thought that my headlights looked much sportier, and the rest of the car looked basically the same. I think 996's are a heck of a bargain.

I have been more and more SIZE aware and the 996 is much smaller than the 997...the farther back you go the smaller the cars get - its not just Porsche, I see it everywhere
the other day I was looking at a Volvo 240 wagon..a ficking WAGON and it was TINY compared to even the Mini Cooper...seriously, looked TINY! - and this week I was following one of those new ugly Dodge Charger/Challenger whatever ugly *** cars (OMG they could not have made that thing any uglier from the rear ehh??) and next to it was a mid 90's Buick Roadmaster station wagon (I know right how many of those are left on the highway) and ....you guessed it, the roadmaster was smaller looking....I swear it! I stared back and forth in shock and though MY GAWD look how big that stupid Dodge is..... but the more I compare older cars to new ones the more I realize (just like your supersized soda and french fries) we are being fed more crap than we asked for, wanted, or need....gotta go wash my suburban...later!

uh, what?
996 v 997
length 996: 174.5
length 997: 175.6
difference, 1.1 inches
width narrowbody 996: 69.5
width narrowbody 997: 71.2
difference, 1.7 inches
Height 996: 51.4
height 997: 51.6
difference, .2 inch
wheelbase 996: 92.6
wheelbase 997: 92.5
difference, negative .1 inch
so, what we've learned here, is that the 997 is within less than 2" of the 996 in all areas.
I didn't realize that qualified as MUCH SMALLER

for some us us 2" is more than MUCH SMALLER (or bigger) and its everthing that is bigger...wheels too.
year after year they add size...and yes, 2" is a lot in my book as it looks bigger in many area as well as weighs - the posted curb weight for a 99' C2 is 2,920 (although we all know most weigh more than this) and the posted weight for the 2 inch larger 05' 997 is 3,075 and the 11' coupe is now 3186
cab 3329
C4 Cab 3,406
add a turbo and its 3,660
bigger means heavier, and there aint no amount of power that can remove weight
no arguing, just saying they are bigger......and if you are sticking it in a small garage (like mine) 2 inches makes a HUGE differance....

Challenger V6 3,720lbs V8 4,132lbs WB 116 L 197.7 W 75.7
Mustang V6 3,453lbs V8 3,605lbs WB 107 L 188 W 73.9
Camaro V6 3,780lbs V8 3,849lbs WB 112 L 190 W 75.5
1995 Buick roadmaster station wagon - LOL!!
V8 4546 lbs...but check the size - WB 101.4 hahaha its 15" shorter wheelbase than the Challenger!! Length 168.8 a whopping 29" shorter!! and W 70.5 (5 inches narrower)
this is funny as hell and has nothing to do with this thread but WOW!!! i am shocked that the "new muscle car" is SOOOO much bigger than the huge pig station wagon (specs are the Estate wagon)

I check Autotrader every now and then for prices on 03 C2(my car). The prices really do seem to be going up. About six months ago the cheapest were $23K-$25K. Last time I looked the cheapest was $27,900 and up from there. I wonder if the Porsche 911 commercials on TV are part of the reason. It make me feel good to know I'm driving a car that appreciates.
