Default I think I witnessed an M96 engine blowing up yesterday

Went to an autocross yesterday, unfortunately didn't place this time as I was 1/4 second off the pace!

But the guy who took the #2 spot in our class had a 996 Targa. After his last run he pulled off the track and his engine sounded like a can full of nuts and bolts being shaken. I was working one of the corners so I was unable to run over and assist but as we ended the event he was on the phone trying to get the car towed. I didn't want to bother and ask questions but if he's on here I hope everything went well for you!

Of course I have no idea about the previous history or condition of the car but from the outside it seemed very well taken care of. Scary stuff and again I hope everything works out for the guy!

this might help

I had a track day Saturday and NO PORSCHE's were injured. We had a Subi blow coolant line and catch on fire? and a saw a Boxster inside turn 2 in the grass, but later saw him/her driving so I guessed all was well...

^^^^Same here, +100 degrees at TWS for our JUNE PCA DE, only the hard core drivers show up. All Porsches running strong, except for one Lemon's 944 that drops oil.

Sorry to start the week off that way. But my car got home AND took me to work this morning! Plus there were probably 25 other cars with M96 engines in them (996, 997, Cayman, Boxster) that also went home just fine.

I guess it just shocked me since I read about it but never saw or heard it happen in person. Plus this car was the same color as mine so it almost felt personal!

Sounds like he should have done some homework and completed an elective IMSR procedure. If he wasn't a believer in the issue before, I am sure he is now.

Or he needed the IMS Guardian :-)

I had a early 90's M3 appear to have loose lug nuts and almost a tire at my DE yesterday. Perfect weekend. A 944 died on the yellow lap but 996's drove their pants off.

Jake loves to use fear as an ad campaign. It's no wonder he's been booted off other Porsche related boards.

46 autocross runs this weekend (!) on my 996, and it drove me to work this morning just like it does every day. I am thinking about the IMS Guardian thing however, as it'll go off of CPO in a few months, and am not sure I want to do an extended warranty.

At my home region events we have lots of tuner cars, so it is usual to have a massively-part-swapped Honda or something die, but nothing like that at this event. We did have a nice Corvette drive into a concrete barrier , but that was a completely different issue.

I have noticed that, the sad part is that fear seems to be taking a firm grip on this forum.

Fernando, I'm sorta glad I had left when the failure occured. Sorry to hear there was a cloud on a otherwise great track day. Got a few pictures of your runs I send to you.

It was fun attending my first event. Thanks again for the invite.

Cheers
Charles

944 that drops oil is a redundant phrase.

A couple of BMW's limped home, but all of the Porsche's survived.
