Well, I guess we're just going to have to wait and see what you've got up your sleeve. I'm interested.

Are you still planning on a July introduction?

Talked to the ad department at Excellence today.. If all works out with the legal processes the unveiling will occur in the Excellence issue that is distributed the first week of July.

Is it just me or is this solution going to boost up the 996 market values closer to where they should be? These cars have been severely underpriced for a long time (only way I could afford one! ) largely due to the IMS issue, in my opinion. Of course there are other factors -- first water-cooled cars, Boxster headlights, etc. -- but I don't think those by themselves are are strong enough to push good 996s down into the high teens.

Not that it matters for me, since I don't plan on selling mine for at least five thousand years, but it'll be interesting to see what a cheap, easy IMS warning device will do to 996 prices....

The development will more than likely increase values, BUT the number of cars built is whats dropped the prices more than the engine horror stories.. Most new buyers of M96 powered Porsches have NO CLUE that the engines have problems until they buy the car and are reading up on it. I have so many of those emails and calls that I wrote a 4 page directive for new buyers that are worried silly after their purchase.

More than anything people will be keeping their 996s longer due to the technology, because they won't be worried. The Sense Of Security (SOS) that we can't give any other way will then be a reality.

Great, my clutch just finally failed on my 2001 Carrera which means I will be doing the IMS bearing retrofit now instead of waiting for this new gizmo to see if it really needed to be done.

Oh well, I will have piece of mind anyways I guess. LOL

Why did you wait for the clutch to fail to replace it?? Now you'll need a new flywheel too!

Question

Is this applicable to a 996 turbo?

No. The turbos, and GT2/3 cars use a different engine.

Well Jake, the clutch was just showing high level of engagement but was not slipping or anything... but suddenly there was a softer feeling to the clutch being depressed and some vibration through the peddle Saturday. I think the pressure plate actually is the issue... so hopefully the flywheel is still good. I stopped driving the car since and am waiting for my clutch kit to come in. Guess I will find out once we pull the transmission.
