Default MY muffler bypass thoughts

Finally did my muffler bypass. Pretty straight forward. Pretty loud, which I dont mind, just not sure if I like the TYPE of sound the flat six makes. I've always been used to a V8 sound, which I love, so this is very different. Gonna give it some time and see how it grows on me. My pipes are from ebay, and one of the tips is a little crooked Spun counter clockwise a little, which means I will need to visit a muffler shop and let them reweld and straighten that out.

I have the ebay bypass on my track car and find them to work just fine... While when I do street drive it, I am easy on the gas.

the sound grows on you as your ears become increasingly less able to hear from the droning

personaly I dont like the by-pass pipes for street, sounds funny, but I get it and to each his own....

I love the sound on the street.

I was initially concerned with the sound level so I had a few friends drive behind me tooling around town. They all said the sound was "just right" for a Porsche, and they aren't the gung-ho type. Of course, full throttle is another story!

one drag, and im sure youll all agree, is that my car is auto, so unless i drive in tip mode and shift myself, the gears change quickly and take away from the long winding sound of a gear.

I have fister bypass mufflers which are part bypass, cat bypass pipes, and K&N intake. I only have drone for like 1000 rpms then it goes away. She likes to yell at other cars when I pass them. haha,
But since my 996 is only for going out looking for trouble, the sound is just right.

Could try some noise deadening blankets around the front of the rear wheel wells and maybe even some under the rear seat areas carpet. I imagine some of the noise is bouncing off the ground hitting the bottom foot wells as well. That' unless you are travelling faster than the speed of sound

Could one of you guys tell me what these pipes bypass and how they work? Do they bypass the cats and mufflers and then therefore these parts are removed? So you save the weight in the back end but they are much louder? Do you have to reprogram or put a new chip in the computer because the car is set up for the back pressure of cats and mufflers?

I put these on, they are 18 1/2lbs for the pair of them, so A LOT lighter than stock, and a little quieter and more of a refined sound than the bypass pipes, but still loud and aggressive. :-)

those are the fabspeed supercups? ↑

On the topic of exhaust, another possible combination I might try is cat bypass pipes and stock mufflers, I would just have to deal with the code, but it would probably still be moderatly loud for the $500 I paid. I need to research a way to fix the re occuring code from the cat sensors. There maybe a fix out there, im pretty sure they are not getting up to temperature.

Try finding a V8 friend to race you and see if that improves your view of what you are hearing out of your car.
