SouthBay 996

So, what's up with the 944's? Not big enough engines? Too old?

Would love to hear your thoughts about them. I know, this is NOT the 944 forum

How about you test drive both cars and post a review yourself.

I would love to, but we are in an arctic freeze right now - 3 degrees out - and I'm not real sure that the dealership would be too happy about me wrapping a porsche around a telephone pole! Hopefully when the weather warms up to freezing I can do some driving

Indeed. However, sports cars are always cheapest to buy in the winter.

I thought you were choosing between the Boxster and the 996. Then you strangely mentioned that you were considering a 944.

I'm partial to Porsche 356's, 911's, Boxsters, and Caymans. The older Porsche sports cars like the 911SC are still amazing to drive and will run forever.

But there's no reason to get a 944. It's almost the same price as the Boxster and the Boxster does EVERYTHING better. The Box is an underrated sports car and you really have to drive it to understand just how sublime an experience it is.

I agree, the winter is the best time to buy any car. However, the bank does not want my financial situation to change before I close on my new house (building it) so I have a little time to look around.

I SAW a nice 944 the other day -black with gold wheels - and just thought I would get someone else's view. I'm trying to do my homework - I can actually

Ok, that makes sense. I apologize for misunderstanding you.

Please, please do not feel that you need to apologize. It is hard enough to communicate when standing face to face, let alone when you have NO facial expression or body language to respond to. I have always felt that 'body language' is 95% of communication - so much can be said when no words are spoken.

I'm trying very hard to learn all the models - what's with all the numbers (engine size?)? And so I would like feed back on each of them. Just trying to catch up with my son

I've owned 2 944's. Great cars, for the time. But compared to a 996 (or Boxster), slow antiques!
