Default **SOLVED** Rough grinding feeling while accelerating and turning

So just recently my car has been experiencing a rough, grinding sort of feeling when I am accelerating around a turn or bend.

It happens at speeds as slow as 35mph and upwards.

Smooth as silk when going straight -
Smooth when coasting around a turn -
Rough when accelerating around a turn.

Any thoughts?

(BTW It may or may not be related, but I did the autocross last week...)
and oh yes - my rear brake pads are getting thin but no brake pad warning light yet.

Ok, help us out a little...
1. It's a C4 right?
2. How many miles on the car?
3. Can you tell whether it is coming from the front or the rear?
4. Have you had any work done on any suspension components - wheel bearings, CV joints, differential?
5. Can you feel it in the steering wheel?
6. How much tread is left on your tires?

YES C4 TIP S

2. How many miles on the car?

50K MILES

3. Can you tell whether it is coming from the front or the rear?

HARD TO TELL - IT FEELS/SOUNDS LIKE THE REAR - BUT I SORT OF FEEL LIKE I CAN FEEL IT IN THE STEERING...
FEELS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN MAKING RIGHT HANDERS

4. Have you had any work done on any suspension components - wheel bearings, CV joints, differential?

NO NONE YET

5. Can you feel it in the steering wheel?

SORT OF...

6. How much tread is left on your tires?

TREAD IS OK - BUT RECENTLY DID AUTOX AND I CAN TELL TIRES ROLLED A LITTLE ALONG EDGES.

So,
You say that the pads are thin....what about the rotors?
Is it a rymthic noise or is it constant?

Haven't checked the rotors but could thin pads or rotors create this problem? I haven't sen the brake light trip? Thanks

Well, it's diagnosed as auto transmission mounts that are shot.

Then ignore that diagnoses and check the front CV joints.

The transmission mounts may be shot but is so that resulted from the drive line stress/windup cased by failed front CV joint(s).

BTW: after I came back from the dealer I just found this:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...hand-turn.html

It's the identical situation...

Maybe not...

That was a C2, yours is a C4 with CV joints also in the front.

Ok I will ask them to check it.
While under there we found 3 things:

1. Transmission mounts shot
2. Drive shaft flex disc on it's way out
3. Right side headlight height adjuster broken

(

Anyway she's an 8 year old car that's a daily driver driven through the winters....

I'm with wwest on this one. CV joints sound like #1 suspect.

well...just back from the dealer.
the CV's are fine....

Are bad CV's always the failure mode for bad transmission mounts?

With front drive grinding or thumping while turning generally indicates a failing CV joint.

Tighter turns and/or accelerating turns generally exacerbate the problem, more NOISE and you feel "tugging" on the stearing wheel in especially tight turns.
