Noise when making a right hand turn
2002 C2 Cabriolet, Tiptronic
When I'm traveling about 45-50 mph and making a right hand turn on to a freeway on ramp I get a grinding sound from the left rear of the car. If I were to guess, it sounds like it may be transmission related. The noise seems to only happen when I'm giving it gas in a right hand turn.
I recently had new tires installed and had a factory wheel alignment also. If I'm in a tight right hand turn using my tiptronic and hitting the gas pretty good in the turn, I hear the grinding at 45-50 mph and feel a little bit of a jerking sensastion. If I don't hit the gas too hard in the turn I don't hear this noise or feel the jerking sensation. I don't feel the jerking sensation when in automatic mode, but will hear the grinding sound as described above only while my foot is in the gas. This noise was not there 6+ months ago or before that.
Any thoughts on what it may be will be appreciated.

I'm sorry, it's not the right tire, it's the left tire or rear left side where the noise is coming from. I just purchased 4 new tires about a month ago. This noise was happening before I purchased the tires, before I had the rear brakes replaced, before the factory alignment, which was all about 4-6 weeks ago, and is still making the same noise now. It does sound like metal klunking when I hit the gas while in the turn.

The sound is definately from the rear. Either the left rear or the tranny. I never had the tranny fluid replaced unless it was a part of the 60K or 100K service. I currently have 120K miles on the car.

Any reasone not to change it yourself? Its a very simple job. I understand, not everyone wants to get dirty and/or oily

Good Question!
The answer is I am so busy this weekend with other scheduled projects. The temp is suppose to get in the mid 90's and I also want them to do a regular tranny service, replace any needed filters, etc.
Now during the week, I'm a software developer and have a schedule so tight that I leave my house around 6:00 AM and don't get home until 8:30PM at the earliest. This includes a 170 mile round trip commute that takes 3.5 hours both ways.
I'm not being lazy. This is my 3rd 911 and I used to do most of the work on the other 911's, including: rebuilding the engine in my 911SC. I still have all the tools I need, just no time. Once I pump the AC into my garage and get some time between projects, I'll do the work myself.
But good question, thanks.

Took my C2 into the dealer this morning and took the Service Manager for a RIDE so he could hear the noise. They just called me and told me it it the automatic transmission mount and it will be $657.00 parts and labor. I guess this is a reasonable charge since the best price I found for the mount was about $239.00.
If I had the time, I certainly would do the repair myself.
Thanks for your input IvanGene and GaryAZ.

That is true (knowing what the noise is) but the labor rates are higher than what I charge as a software developer. Guess I should have stuck with auto mechanics or motorcycles as my father told me to do when I was a young man.
How do you guys keep your mileage so low? Do you drive your cars? I bought my 2002 C2 a little over 2 years ago with 65k miles and I now have 121K miles. My tires don't last very long either.
