Good basic book on 996
i just bought a 2000 996 cabriolet. not being mechanically inclined but having a good mechanic to go to, what might be a good book with solid non technical information for a neophyte. thanks for any help.

If you are going to do much DIY the manual is pretty much a necessity. For general knowledge and an understanding of the 996 the Essential Companion is great. But I would take with a grain of salt the author's editorializing on failures ( we he does not seem to believe are common).

996 The Essential Companion, is a must have if you own one, there is endless information regarding the car. The authors perspective of weak areas regarding the motor is different than most of us here that get bombed daily with posts about chronic failures. Hang out at hospital, psychiratric ward, or insta-care clinic long enough and you will be convinced all people have health related issues.
