Keith- There are two differant self dimming mirrors for that car which I have spent a great deal of time sourcing. The differance is that one is the factory option & the other is the tequipment add on which may also include the tequipment rain sensor. Be carefull. They mount differantly!!! .

I know this thread is 7 years old, but I have a repair option for what it's worth.
radar-mirror.com will repair ANY auto-dimming rear-view mirror for $99 (you have to remove it and ship it to them and wait for it to return, though). I used them for my BMW M5 and plan to use them again for the 996 Turbo because it has the same issue.
