Default scratched splitter

I think that's the right name for the piece that extends below my front spoiler.

Mine is quite scratched and could stand to be refinished.

Should I do it myself?

Or should I remove it and take it to a professional paint shop to have it repainted?

It seems easy enough to pull it off and refinish it at home with a semi-gloss finish, but I'd love to hear from someone who has done this before.

Here's a photo of the part....

BTW - If the recommendation is to have it professionally painted, can anyone recommend a shop in the Raleigh, NC area?

Isn't that the bolt-on plastic lip that sells for like $90?

I think it's closer to $70. Buying a new one is the best option.

Bob, it's plastic not painted so it would be easier to just replace it.......and then STAY OFF THOSE CURBS!

By the way, the p/n is 996.505.986.00 and retail is $63.85

Ha! So a bargain! (If yours is painted, it shouldn't be...)

That won't fix the scratching.

If you have some spare time: Sand it, fill it, and then hit it with some flat black BBQ paint. If not, I'd buy a new one and keep the scratched one around for trackdays and whatnot.

the MKII style isn't much more if you're going to buy one. It wraps around a little further on the sides.

What filler would you use?

To be honest, I would probably use good old fashioned Bondo - something like this. I know it's traditionally used as dent filler on body panels, but 3M says it's good for virtually any surface.

Actually it is. It's almost $300 for the MkII splitter. The cheaper option would be the MkII Cup Splitter which is even larger and roughly $200. The cup splitter is what most of us put on our GT3s

Yes, but if not Ed has some extra Honda parts that might work.
