Yup. If you run your hand down around the weather strip seal on the door, you will find a gap at the bottom of the passenger door.

Battery Tender
Are you talking about the safety switch that requires you to push in the clutch to start the car? Never knew that.

Here's one.
Like the cable throttle, the 1999 996 had cable activated trunk/hood/front bonnet release, vs electrically activated unlocking in later models, which creates issues if your battery dies. This alone makes having a 99 worth it for me!

My MY 2000 996 also has a cable activated release for the frunk and engine compartment.

First Impressions opening the driver's door. Those paddles get really scuffed over the years from feet dragging over them, and for a relatively low amount of money I replaced them with fresh ones and it made quite a difference. Seen others paint them, but you lost the graphics, still, they are very obvious on first glance.

I'd be inclined to replace them, or maybe repaint if I could make them stronger than the original.
If you have a inkjet printer, it's easy to print water transfer decals (they sell the paper on amazon), so you could print clear decals for the graphics, and make them disappear under clear coat.

How difficult were they to replace?

I did try these stickers a long time ago -- looked great initially, but didn't last very long.

I tried stickers first then opted to replace them. Lots of options. As I recall they were an easy change out. Suncoast Porsche has them new of you head that route.

If you want a Porsche targa with 2WD and a hinged back window, your only choice is a 996. The 993 had the sliding glass roof but no hinged window; the 997 targa had the hinged window but only came in AWD.
