Gently turn the clock adjustment ****. Right for brighter gauge lights, left for lower gauge lights. Only works for the instrument cluster and radio (if original). I think it also works for the HVAC panel lights.

disconnecting negative battery terminal
Wheel installation guide pin in the tool set. Helps prevent hitting the calipers and just make it easier to put on the wheel.
Ignition Switch on the left side, came from when drivers had to run to the car and start up the car. This allowed them to use 1 hand to for the ignition and the other to put the car in gear.
Jump start the car from the rear compartment. Connectors are in the engine compartment.
There are power connectors in drivers side fuse box. Connect power to this and then you can pop the trunk lid to get at the dead battery.
If you have power seat with memory, you can set the passenger side mirror to tilt down when your put it in reverse by saving your seat memory while gear is in reverse.
Disconnecting the battery clears any codes and forces engine to recalibrate air/gas mixture.
Steering wheel lock. With ignition key in gently tug the wheel left or right to lock the steering wheel in position.
To turn off AC completely, keep lowering the fan level until it turns off.
To lock seat belt into position, move seat back all the way, then tighten up the seat belt, give it a quick snap once and it should lock. Move seat back into driving position. This keeps you nice and snug for driving and the track.

I just read this ENTIRE thread. You see, I have a deposit on a 99 Aero so I need to learn EVERYTHING before picking it up next week!
I learned that my 99 has features I like, ie, cable operated throttle, frunk and lid. Less electronics, less weight, and of course a double row IMS (which has now LN made).
Oh, and a real dipstick!
And I'm growing to love fried eggs. In fact, I'm going to eat that for breakfast every day until the car arrives!
Subscribed. Thank you.
(also long island is the best!)

That's almost like my bore-scoring denial: "when I turn off the radio, I hear a ticking noise from the engine. When I turn it back on, everything is fine." - except the HVAC and the cooling system are related, and the car should NOT overheat whether the HVAC is on or not. Something is wrong with your cooling system, very likely the fans (which come on when you turn on the HVAC, coincidentally)

OBC on '98 build 996
On a 1998 build ('99 US) 996 the onboard computer can be turned on, i.e. display multiple functions like outside temp, etc.; even a three stalk lever column can be turned on as well.

Correct. OBC is there, just not activated. Once activated it will read the outside temperature as default, however there is a guy that makes a wiring kit that you attach to the cluster and can either install and wire to a stalk, or what I did was utilize the blank "unused" buttons next to the climate control instead. Pelican has toggle switches that work great, look OEM, and don't cost much.

Please post details or links about activation and the Pelican toggle switch. Please! 🙏

Any shop can activate the OBC, but it will automatically show the outside temperature. Attached is a picture of the "schematic" I drew years back, with the wiring pre-made by an old user from here. Think it's for a 3-rd stalk addition, haven't tested the length to see if it reaches the center console near the HVAC for the blank buttons. Honestly just haven't cared to go further since it shows temp and none of the other information I care about once behind the wheel.

I did this hack in my 2000 Boxster years ago using an extra rocker switch in a vacant position near the radio. Here is the link to Pelican where they show you how to do it. Fortunately my 2000 C2 Cab had this option done at the factory.

Battery maintainer cable pass through
Hi there
my car doesn’t have the manual but I remember reading somewhere that if you have the trickle charger connected there’s a recess on the door trim so you can pass the cable through without preventing the door from closing completely.
true ?
