Default Sunroof Fun

I think the control for my sunroof has lost it's mind. Auto close and open is no longer working. When I press the button to "lift" the sunroof to open I hear a popping noise as if the roof is still trying to move forward and up at the same time. Sounds like it is hitting something up there. I have closed it for now and am gonna take it to the shop. Anyone experience this before?

Looks like my 100k warranty I bought is gonna start to get some use!

My last 996 developed some sunroof problems. I fixed them by never opening it again!

I have always offered a little assistance on closing so it doesnt auto-retract, but its just a scary thought to remove the head liner and see whats wrong - or needs a little cleaning/lube

This seems to be a typical problem for Porsches. My 965 has had so many problems with the sunroof, even though it seems to be working now, it isn't alright yet. So many problems.

Mine just rattles over bumps in the open position. And I ENJOY sunroofs! so yes I keep it open.

Mine was pretty creaky when I bought my car, I even had to help it closed with the little wrench under the switch plate at one point. Then I hit the mechanism with some motorcycle chain lube/wax and its been fine ever since.

Perhaps this is late advice, but the MORE you use them, the better they work. They need to be exercised.
